We recently connected with Azia Gambrell and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Azia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to improve, educate, and inspire my clients and those around me to accomplish their goals whether that is through real estate, dance, the arts, or fitness training, I love helping those around me become greater in their life! My passion is to inspire those around me to see the light within themselves so much so that they inspire those around them to do the same!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a realtor with Murrell Homes Real Estate Group and I became a realtor to tell people it’s easier than they think, no matter if they are buying or selling and it can be an excellent investment whether short or long term. I also wanted to serve the community through service and education.
I am also a professional dancer, choreographer, and dance teacher as well. I sing and act as well, and earned my BFA in Dance Performance & Choreography from the Conservatory of Music and Dance from the University of Missouri- Kansas. I have had the pleasure of working with/performing for a multitude of organizations, productions, dance studios, and dancers regionally, and nationwide. I am very blessed to be able to share my passion for dance with those around me! As I am an advocate for the arts,
I am the CEO of Art in the City KC, an organization that provides a platform for artists of all mediums to share their talents with the Kansas CIty community. Art in the City KC events feature art galleries, live performances, and awesome food and drink. One of the primary reasons I created Art in the City was to provide performance opportunities for local arists who feel unseen and/or want to create and collaborate with other artists to create impactful art to share with the community. Follow Art in the CIty KC on Instagram and Facebook and be on the lookout for our next event in September!
I love being an AKT Fitness Trainer at AKT Leawood. Health and wellness are super important to me and training and teaching at AKT Leawood has been absolutely stellar! AKT has 4 types of workouts- BANDS, DANCE, CIRCUIT, and TONE! There is definitely something for everyone and the content changes every 3 weeks. AKT helps keep my mind and body fresh and fit!! I also love to see my clients CHANGE for the better!
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
After earning my BFA, I was longing for versatile, inclusive, and fresh performance opportunities in Kansas City and just wasn’t finding them, so I decided to create my own. With that came Art in the City KC! Our first event debuted last year, February 22, 2022 at the Hyvee Arena. Since then, Art in the City has held its second event which was at Centennial United Methodist Church, Art in the City KC is set to have its next event late September! Having two successful events and planning for the next one are totally milestsones!! I am also attending workshops, meetings, and 101 sessions with valuable mentors who are helping me along the way.
I discovered Murrell Homes Real Estate Group on Instagram. I interviewed and before I knew it, I was on with the brokerage. Murrell Homes Group is a minority owned, community led Real Estate brokerage. Our offices are located in the urban core of Kansas City, Missouri. We believe in the empowerment and uplifting of our clients as well as our community. Through consistent work, education, and experience we strive to lead the Real Estate industry here in our city and beyond. The Real Estate experience is more than selling or purchasing a home, it can have a lasting effect on generations to come, we are focused on planting the seed of financial literacy within our community so that those effects are positive.
I found out about ABHMS through my now mentor Tony Gapastione, founder and Executive Director of BraveMaker, a non-profit film arts organization. We met at Starbucks with a pal of mine and after grabbing his coffee, Tony and my pal began to converse about wanting to walk everywhere and being from California…Tony then explained that he was visitng Kansas City as a guest speaker at the ABHMS Space for Grace 2022 Conference and that his new film Last Chance Charlene was also being shown. He mentioned how he would be speaking at Space For Grace the next day, so I attended. During Tony’s talk I discovered that applications were open for American Baptist Home Mission Socities Cycle 3 Co-Creators Incubator Program! I applied, got accepted and have been working dilligently to make Art in the City KC the best it can be with aid and guidance from ABHMS.
