We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ayumi Lashley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ayumi below.
Ayumi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you manage your own social media?
I handle most areas of my social media business, Lashley Media LLC, which takes up a lot of my time. For the last year I’ve partnered with a great social media management team that helps me with several aspects of my brand collaborations. They have provided me a lot relief when it comes to email traffic and negotiations. But due to the recent growth across several of my platforms I will be hiring an assistant. An assistant will give me more time with my family along with more time to create!
Ayumi, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Ayumi Lashley and I’m an Army Combat veteran, business owner, entrepreneur and full time content creator. My social media journey began in my senior year of college at Clayton State University where I earned my Bachelors of Science in Dental Hygiene. During my senior year some friends of mine convinced my husband and I that we should start a YouTube channel, and the rest was pretty much history. After doing some research into the content creator industry we dived right in. We began our channel “Lashley Life” where we created family content and posted about once a week. My niche and brand has evolved over the years. My brand is all about highlighting the most important traditions and values of my family. We like to think we provide a breath of fresh air across social media. I’ve prided my self on sharing my Neurodivergent journey and love for the millennial culture. But most importantly I encourage all of my viewers to boldly be exactly who they are! We are all one of a kind unique souls. Through my content I’m encouraging folks to genuine love and except them selves and their neighbors for who they are. It’s ok to be different, it’s ok to do things your way, and we can love, laugh, and appreciate all of our uniqueness. One thing I genuinely love is being able to connect with thousands of moms out there that are walking the same path as I am. We are each others support. They come to my channel for a laugh, or even a moment of relief for their day and I enjoy engaging with each and every one of my followers.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creator is knowing that with my content aims about to change the lives of so many. Many of my followers DM me and say “your content is the best part of my day” or “ I was having such a bad day until I seen your video” messages like that just give me life!
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
It would have been great to have a support group with in the creator community. The industry is very young, but there is so much knowledge and experience to be learned from each other. I’ve personally learned everything from trail and error, which tends to always be the longer route. Creatives tend to work in isolation, but I think we should be more like a family.
