Hi Aysegul, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

My mission is to create beautiful, high-quality, handcrafted products through equitable relationships and sustainable practices within the fashion industry. Develop and produce high quality clothing by causing no necessary harm to people and environment, help and inspire other designers to become more sustainable with fashion collections and create awareness about the state of fashion.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

As a graduate of Atlanta’s Savannah College of Art & Design, Aysegul is a versed designer and a proponent of slow fashion. Her fashion brand focuses on the detailed process of the craft and will offer contemporary women’s pieces. Aysegul Ikna Designs is all about breathing new life into old, creating modern aesthetic from recycled and locally sourced fabrics. She sources materials from off cut fabrics and unwanted clothes by working with secondhand traders.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

Building a reputation takes time and effort. My product’s quality and sustainability helped me a lot. Consumer wants to support local sustainable fashion designers. People are more interested in making more responsible choices when comes to purchasing new clothing. Many consumer understands prioritizing quality over quantity, instead of buying numerous cheap and disposable items, they invest in higher-quality clothing that last longer. My main focus to produce high-quality and fashionable sustainable clothing.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

I have a showroom at Citizen Supply, Ponce City Market. There are many local designers and artisans at this showroom. I have an opportunity display my designs. I also try to reach through social media. I am not super talented with social media, but I am planning to hire a good team to help me.
