We were lucky to catch up with Ayrton Bryan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ayrton thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Along with taking care of clients, taking care of our team is one of the most important things we can do as leaders. Looking back on your journey, did you have a boss that was really great? Maybe you can tell us about that boss and what made them a wonderful person to work for?
The best boss I ever had is still a mentor of mine, and honestly gave me the most frustration at times.
I will never forget, I had some late deliverables, and he asked me about their status. I spent five minutes outlining plans and ideas of what to do and how it would work.
He paused and said, in the most empathetic and genuinely curious tone“ Those plans are great… what have you actually done?”
I froze… I sat and thought, and realized that I had done no actual task. That is when I learned that without doing and action, planning can give a false sense of accomplishment, with no true results
Ayrton, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Haha all accidental. I am an engineer by background, and 2.5 years ago, I didn’t even know what a Business Plan was.
I just knew I wanted to help Black Owned business and had a very specific idea about how to do it. I learned so much about one topic, and no one was biting. I got mad, frustrated, and thought “why can’t they see how great this could be for them?”
Then while reflecting , I realized that as a team, to offer true help, we had to do more listening- be in the “customers “ shoes. This is where we really started making connections, providing opportunities. And gaining Allie’s in the community. It has been so rewarding (still hard too) since
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
No Agenda meetings. It was paired with the luxury of time/ being a “side hustle”, but meeting with new people and treating them well just because they are a person on earth works wonders.
The poppy ties that grow and come from seemingly nowhere when you are intentionally listening and learning about others are incredible
How did you build your audience on social media?
Consistency. We had a man that just loved pushing out content, and he learned from it.
Never let perfection be the enemy of progress. Get out there, weak your post to lwarn your audience, and make decisions from the data.
