Our mission is deeply personal and rooted in a commitment to sustainability, community empowerment, and ethical sourcing.

Growing up in a family of cocoa farmers, I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by smallholder farmers in Cameroon. This inspired me to create a business model that not only delivers premium cocoa products but also uplifts the communities that produce them. By ensuring fair compensation and sustainable practices, we aim to transform the livelihoods of farmers and contribute to the economic development of their regions.

This mission is meaningful to me because it reflects a lifelong dedication to creating positive change. It’s about redefining transparency in the chocolate industry and fostering a future where everyone involved in the production process benefits.

EMKAO Foods Inc. specializes in producing premium, sustainable cocoa products sourced directly from our family farm in Cameroon. We focus on ethical trade, quality, and transparency, offering a range of cocoa ingredients to B2B clients, including chocolatiers, bakers, and food manufacturers.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.

Yes, we manufacture our products at EMKAO Foods. Our journey began with a deep-rooted connection to cocoa farming, as our family has been cultivating cocoa beans in Cameroon for generations. This background provided us with a solid understanding of the raw materials and the importance of quality and sustainability.

Initially, we had to learn the intricacies of manufacturing cocoa products, which involved extensive research and development. We invested in building our own facility to ensure we could maintain control over the entire production process, from bean to final product. This decision was driven by our commitment to ethical sourcing and transparency.

Throughout this journey, we’ve learned valuable lessons about manufacturing. One key takeaway is the importance of maintaining high-quality standards and consistency in every batch. We’ve also realized the significance of building strong relationships with suppliers and continuously innovating to meet market demands.

Finding the right equipment and skilled team members has been crucial to our success. We’ve focused on creating a collaborative environment where continuous improvement is encouraged, allowing us to refine our processes and deliver exceptional products to our customers.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

One story that stands out in our journey at EMKAO Foods is when we faced significant challenges due to the pandemic and subsequent flooding in Abbotsford. These events led to temporary shutdowns and severe disruptions in our supply chain, threatening our ability to deliver products on time and maintain our commitments to customers.

Instead of succumbing to the pressure, we took proactive steps to address the issues. During the pandemic, we quickly adapted by implementing safety protocols and remote work solutions to keep our team safe while maintaining operations. When the flooding hit Abbotsford, we diversified our supplier network, reaching out to new partners to ensure a steady flow of raw materials. Additionally, we invested in technology to improve our inventory management and forecasting capabilities, allowing us to better anticipate and respond to future disruptions.

Throughout these challenging periods, our team remained focused and determined. We worked tirelessly to communicate transparently with our customers, keeping them informed of our efforts and progress. This experience not only strengthened our resilience but also reinforced the importance of adaptability and innovation in overcoming obstacles.

By turning potential setbacks into opportunities for growth, we emerged stronger and more committed to delivering high-quality products and exceptional service to our customers.
