We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aydee Deaton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aydee below.
Aydee, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Outlining your non-negotiable time commitments to create your work boundaries, hustle, consistency, and blinders so you focus on what you’re doing and no one else. Comparison is the thief of joy.
I have my set non-negotiable days where I have to fulfill obligations with my son’s therapies. My son is my number one priority and I need to make sure that I schedule my business around his primary needs.
Aydee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a special needs mom and wife. I haven’t worked outside of the home since my son was born with a congenital heart defect and ischemic brain injury.
I first dabbled in cookie decorating by taking a cookie decorating workshop and instantly fell in love! It spoke to my love of baking, gifting, and creativity!
Through YouTube and Instagram videos I learned the craft and decorated cookies as a creative outlet and to gift cookies.
March 2020 I began to share my creations on my social media and they began to generate buzz! I wondered if this would be a good opportunity to start something new. With all the excitement I was receiving on social media, I took a leap of faith, and began Sugarberry Cookie Shoppe. It’s been busy ever since!!
We specialize in custom decorated cookies, logo cookies, cookie cakes, and cookie decorating workshops!
How did you build your audience on social media?
The buzz on my personal social media is what prompted me to pursue this business idea. I knew social media was going to be instrumental in my business!
Organically building my following has been a process. Showing up consistently, following trends but keeping them true to my brand, and networking has been monumental in growing my following.
I’m a keep it real kind of girl and share all the imperfections such as baking mishaps!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We’ve all heard “people buy from those they like, know, and trust.” and it’s true!
Word of mouth from happy clients is the biggest marketing tool. It’s important to create a fun and warm relationship with my clients. Not only does it help me know them/ their style to create the perfect cookie sets but it also makes them want to refer their friends!
