Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ayat Aborahma . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ayat, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I have always wanted to work in medicine. I was just not sure which graduate program I wanted to pursue. I discovered PA school after I graduated college. It actually took me three tries to get in. I almost gave up, but I could not imagine myself doing something else. I really wanted this field because you do not have to specialize afterwards, and you can work in multiple specialties at the same time if desired. This is such a great and growing field!

Ayat, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Dermatology is the reason why I wanted to pursue the medical field in the first place. It is not just about botox and fillers. It’s about treating all kinds of beautiful skin. By the way, did you know your epidermis is showing?
I struggled so much with acne growing up. I remember being called a pizza face a lot. No amount of makeup could hide my pimples and texture. Also, it was difficult finding someone who understands ethnic skin. We all have skin problems, and I wanted to be in a field where I can treat all types of skin and make my patients more confident. I still want to fulfill my dream of creating my own skincare line. Hopefully, I can make that happen in the near future.
Currently, I am working in primary care gaining experience. I see all kinds of specialties including dermatology. I also do Botox injections. For fun, I like to post hot spots I go to, restaurants, and outfits on Instagram.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I imagined myself in the beauty and fashion industry, but I was influenced to be in healthcare by my family. This was a difficult journey, and I do get burnt out at times. However, this is a very rewarding profession, and I do not regret it. I am currently combining my love for aesthetics with medicine.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
You have to be honest with your work, self, and others. Everything you do has to be for the right reasons. If you do things for money or to please others, you will not be happy. Do something you are passionate about even if it takes time and longer than others. The journey and growth are worth it. I always pour my heart and soul into everything I do. Because of my various experiences in healthcare, I know it will lead me to my ultimate goal in dermatology. I hope to inspire current and future students in healthcare.
