We were lucky to catch up with Ayanna Brandon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ayanna, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Landscape design has been seeing an increase in 3D design requests from clients and companies are adding to their service offerings to meet these requests. These designs allow for clients to visually see their landscape projects in a way that is real world and virtual.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My career background is Electrical Engineering, as I have a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. I’ve always enjoyed utilizing AutoCAD and design tools to visually bring projects to live. So in 2018 I decided to pursue Landscape design, by learning more about the industry and various aspects needed in a career as a Landscape designer. Working with clients and helping them throughout the design process is something that I love to do. The main problem that Reyone International helps clients overcome is what to do with their landscape and how to make their dreams a reality. Most often contractors that complete the installation aren’t able to devote the time and attention to clients that are unclear of exactly what they would like. Or even clients that ask many questions, to gain clarity in the best design options for their landscape. My team and I are able to provide 2D and 3D design options to our clients to help them make critical decisions so that they feel comfortable with the direction of the landscape project.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Recently I made the decision to focus solely on design services and no longer offer installation services. This decision took me a few months to consider the options and reestablish the 1-3 year plan of the business.
Through the refocus, I was able to identify opportunities to grow and expand the business and myself as a business owner. Shifting to design services allows more flexibility to expand the service offering of the business. Installation required more time, resources, overhead costs and management of contractors.
The other aspect that I was able to focus on is pursuing my professional engineering license. Obtaining this license will allow me to scale the business and to expand into commercial projects.
Other opportunities that came from the refocus was how intentional I became with managing my time. Which has allowed me to create a fully automated system that allows for clients virtually and remotely to get professional designs regardless of their location. Providing design solutions that provide cost effective and sustainable options for our clients and contractors is our priority.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The power of automation and time management tools. There are a wide range of software services available to support entrepreneurs, business owners & individuals with managing redundant tasks. Those tasks that are repetitive, time sensitive and based on documents or emails can be managed with automation.
