We were lucky to catch up with AY Young recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi AY, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for the Battery Tour emerged from my passion for music and a desire to address global issues. The Battery Tour’s unique approach of blending music with activism was something I hadn’t seen before. It addressed the problem of unsustainable energy in performances and inspired communities to embrace renewable solutions. This journey led to even bigger projects like Project17, aiming to use music to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

AY, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
About Me and My Journey
Hello, I’m AY Young, a musician, producer, songwriter, and entrepreneur deeply committed to sustainability and social impact. My journey into the music industry started at a young age, fueled by a passion for creating and performing music. Over the years, I recognized the powerful role music could play in driving positive change and raising awareness about critical global issues.
The Battery Tour
The Battery Tour is a grassroots concert series powered entirely by renewable energy. We use solar panels and batteries to provide a clean energy source for our shows, making each performance a demonstration of sustainable practices. Through these concerts, we not only entertain but also educate audiences about the importance of renewable energy and sustainability.
Project17
Building on the success of the Battery Tour, I launched Project17, an ambitious initiative to create a music album with one song for each of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This project involves collaboration with prominent recording artists, corporate sponsors, and nonprofit organizations, aiming to inspire cross-sector collaboration and impact. Each song and its associated initiatives highlight and support a specific SDG, with proceeds donated to relevant projects and NGOs.
What Sets Us Apart
What sets the Battery Tour and Project17 apart is our unique blend of music, activism, and renewable energy. We address the problem of unsustainable energy use in live performances and leverage the universal language of music to promote sustainability. Our approach is innovative and holistic, combining entertainment with education and community upliftment.
Our Impact and Achievements
To date, the Battery Tour has powered over 900 concerts worldwide, providing a model for how live entertainment can be sustainable. Our work has garnered partnerships with major corporations like Samsung and General Motors, and we have been recognized by the United Nations, with me being named one of the UN’s 17 Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals. I also had the honor of performing at President Biden’s inauguration, further amplifying our message of sustainability.
