We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Avnah Long. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Avnah below.
Alright, Avnah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think it takes a lot to be successful but the one thing you must do is take risk. You have to take risk, operate outside of your comfort zone and create fresh ideas. If you’re not willing to take risk, you will never know what works and what doesn’t. As a fashion designer, creating garments that are innovative, couture and unparalleled opens doors for elevated opportunities. These opportunities can bring more customers, prospects and exclusive clients that will help grow your business.

Avnah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
AVNAH is an exclusive clothing brand specializing in ready-to-wear to avant-garde and couture designs. The brand was launched in 2002 and it has grown tremendously over the years.. This brand consist of creative designs with artistic aesthetics, intricate pattern making and structured designs. This year my brand AVNAH was recognized by Neiman Marcus as one of 7 notable designers in Atlanta. Neiman Marcus Celebrated these designers during their Black History Month with a special Exhibit honoring us all. AVNAH Collection was displayed in Neiman Marcus at Lenox Mall.
As a fashion designer I also works as a seamstress for film and tv and also design custom builds for film, tv video’s and artist in the industry. Being able to stretch yourself and use your talents and gifts in more than one way allows you to multifaceted.
I’m most proud of the way my brand is able to give back to at risk youth, the fashion shows that benefit scholarships that I’ve been so blessed to be apart of and merging fashion with philanthropy. This always gives me joy and reminds me of the bigger purpose behind the brand AVNAH.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience and social media presence actually started before social media existed. This was the time when artist, designers and creatives had to actually put in a lot of foot work to establish yourself as a business or brand. You had to really network, go into businesses and leave your cards, attend events or participate in runway shows often, develop a true following, and word of mouth was your stamp. There was no Instagram and Facebook. So a lot of my followers and social media presence are people that know how long I’ve put in the work, They have seen how my craft has grown and developed. If I had any advice for those starting to build a social media presence, it would be to stay authentic, post often and stay consistent.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most effective strategy for growing my clientele is to simply produce quality work and give them an experience that they never forget. I want my clients and customers to feel amazing when they wear a design or statement piece from the collection. I want to offer them an experience not just a garment. They feel confident, bold and that is how I want them to feel. The strategy is providing them with an exclusive design to give them an extraordinary experience.
