We recently connected with Avier Ashby and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Avier, thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Lets be real , Entrepreneurship is the way to go but it isnt easy. You really have to take risk & sacrifice your time and money to grow any business you do. Being able to successfully manage 3 businesses has motivated me to keep going. I can’t imagine after 5 years going back to a regular job and see all my businesses fail. Ive worked too hard to backtrack on my life. Even when the market becomes slow, I always think outside the box to keep everything afloat. FAILING IS NEVER AN OPTION ‼️

Avier, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When i was 7 years old, i would always see my mother and grandmother do hair for their clients. When I became a little older, I began practicing with my grandmother and learning most of her hair techniques. Once I made it to highschool, I then enrolled in cosmetology that my highschool was offering (Lancaster Highschool) . Before my grandmother got sick , she gave me some of her hair tools to practice on my clients while i was in beauty school. After her passing away I knew in my heart it was destined to become a cosmetologist and follow in my grandmother’s footsteps. With that motivation, I was able to graduate highschool with my diploma and cosmetology license. I then went off to college (Northeast texas community college)to learn more about the business aspect of my career. 2 1/2 years later I graduated with my AS degree in business management & accounting. During the time after graduation , i moved back to dallas to try and pursue my degree which didnt go to well.. I was running into issues where I couldn’t find any accounting job that was paying good for entry level or just working jobs to make it ;so I decided to go into a hair salon and build my clientle more. After working in different salons, I was finally able to find my salon home(Top Tier Beauty Bar). Being welcomed by team that loves you and support you was everything I wanted in a salon . By me securing this, I was able to pursue my next business venture, which was a professional tax preparer. A part of my degree plan we had to learn how to do taxes which I am highly grateful for because now I am a four-year tax professional and I love it. While securing that business, I recently ventured off into creating my own hair growth oil line(elixir hair growth oil). Elixir started November 2023 and it has been blowing up ever since. What made me create my own hair growth oil was really paying attention to my clients hair. Recommending different products that never worked or some that work sometimes and didn’t really push me to sit down and create a formula that not only grows people hair but strengthens their hair and target any problematic areas. Being able to juggle three businesses is such a blessing to me and I hope my business just keep flourishing while encouraging others to step forward with their dreams as well as their business plans. Remember always stay positive ,motivated and have good customer service ;failure is never an option!!!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Hey , it takes money to make money . I started my first business when I was about 16 years old with maybe $200 to my name. I took that $200 made me some business cards, bought me some products , and got up every morning to pass out those cards and promote on social media. Don’t ever think you need a lot of money to startanything. Sometimes you have to take risk and start with what you have and watch it flourish long as you’re dedicated and working into something that you know you love to do everything else will fall in place..
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Social media , word-of-mouth , running specials and good customer service…
