Avery, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

I think so far the most meaningful would be the trips I have gone on with my friends’ bands. Getting to go on the road and take pictures while they perform is always fun, and the antics along the way add to it! Those trips just have a special place in my heart.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

My name is Avery McPherson, my Instagram is @0naveryisland, and I’m a photographer.

I started out with a second hand film camera from eBay near the end of 2021 as a birthday gift to myself and began walking around different cities taking still life / street photography of anything that caught my eye. From there, I started shooting concerts, portraits, and events until going over to digital cameras where my “style” started to develop. I tend to use a lot of fisheye lenses, artificial lighting, and long shutter speeds to give my photos a look that feels unique and pays homage to old skateboard photography I looked at growing up.

Most people who come to me are doing fun creative sessions for their birthday, with their partner, or just want some fresh photos in a good outfit / new hairstyle. I’m proud of the work I’ve created so far in a short period of time and I’m excited to keep it going into the future. My next goal is to showcase my work in a small gallery or DIY space by summer 2025.

Masking on Lightroom. What a godsend.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

Instagram!! People sharing my work on their story, collab posts with clients, etc. it’s where I get 99% of my inquiries.
