We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Avery King a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Avery, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear your thoughts about making remote work effective.
Fortunately, remote work is seamless for my team, as much of our work can be managed through email and phone calls. While there are occasions when we need to be on-site, such as for interviews, award shows, TV appearances or photoshoots, the flexibility of remote work usually suits us well and promotes a healthier work-life balance. I always tell my team “as long as the work gets done and you’re managing your time well, that’s what matters most to me.”

Avery, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We try to always offer a personalized approach to every client we serve. When I founded my firm, I knew I wanted to keep it boutique. By maintaining a small, dedicated team and a select roster, we’re able to immerse ourselves fully in each client’s needs to bring true creativity to the table.
Whether it’s crafting a story that genuinely reflects their essence or uncovering opportunities that align with their vision, our focus is always on highlighting what makes each client stand out. We’re also committed to building authentic relationships—not just with our clients, but across the industry—to ensure meaningful, lasting results. Ultimately, our success is defined by amplifying each client’s voice in a way that’s both powerful and true to who they are.
The aspect I value most about my firm is the genuine, personal connection we have with each of our clients. Getting to know them on a deeper level and understanding what truly drives them allows us to do our job more effectively and tailor our approach to what matters most to them. I’m honored by the trust they place in us throughout this process, and it’s a responsibility I will never take for granted.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Relationships are the foundation of any successful business. While we may not be out here curing cancer, the work we do still carries significant meaning. Being part of what makes fans fall in love with certain artists or songs—it matters. One principle I’ve always adhered to is the belief that our reputation is everything. Acting with integrity, honesty, and genuine care for the people we work with makes a lasting impact.
Some of my favorite moments are those spent casually having coffee or lunch with a journalist, without the pressure of constantly having to “pitch” them. Instead, I’ll ask about what they’re listening to on their drive home. Building authentic relationships is key, because finding the right partners who truly connect with what you’re pitching doesn’t happen overnight—even though we wish it would sometimes. Forcing a connection that isn’t there doesn’t move anyone forward, and we make it a point to avoid that at all costs.

Any advice for managing a team?
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about managing a team and keeping morale high, it’s that flexibility has to come first. I fully trust my team — not just because of the work they do, but because we’re invested in each other’s lives, both personally and professionally. That kind of relationship builds real commitment.
I’m a big believer in giving people the freedom to work when they’re at their best. Especially in creative environments, you can’t force great ideas — and it’s even harder to be creative when you’re stuck staring at a screen all afternoon. Sometimes the best ideas happen on an afternoon walk, or during a quick brainstorm over FaceTime at the end of the day. Flexibility allows for that. You have to be willing to do whatever it takes to keep the work moving forward while also making space for life to happen — because it will.
As long as everyone is managing their time, meeting expectations, and respecting the trust we’ve built, I’ll always make room for flexibility. When people feel trusted and respected, they show up stronger. At the end of the day, it’s about setting a high bar, being clear about what matters, and giving your team the space and trust to get there in their own way.”
