We were lucky to catch up with Avery Caldwell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Avery, thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
An essential lesson I’ve learned as a business owner is the importance of embracing risk. After four invaluable years under the mentorship of my former boss, Christina Passanise, I was presented with a transformative opportunity: the chance to open my own suite rental business. This decision came with significant risks, as I had just one month to prepare, all while being nearly nine months pregnant with my second child. Although the timing seemed daunting, I recognized it as the perfect moment to take that leap of faith. I am grateful to say that my journey has been rewarding, and everything is unfolding beautifully.

Hello, I’m Avery Caldwell, the proud owner of Flutter Lash and Brow Studio in Town and Country, MO. My passion for this industry began at a young age and has only deepened over the years. While my interests have evolved, my focus is now exclusively on lashes and brows—hence the name of my studio. I offer tailored lash sets and a diverse range of brow treatments, ensuring that each service is customized to meet the unique needs of my clients. My mission is to create a calm and welcoming environment, which I believe is essential for exceptional service. Everyone deserves to feel their best, and I am dedicated to making that a reality for each individual who walks through my doors.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My goal has always been to cultivate a clientele that genuinely connects with me, fostering meaningful relationships. I firmly believe that there’s someone for everyone, and those who are meant to be part of my journey will naturally find their way to me. Over the years, I have built an incredible community, resulting in numerous meaningful friendships. It’s truly fulfilling to know that I can care for so many individuals simultaneously; they are not just the backbone of my small business, but they have become like family. As I often say, “A client will become a friend faster than a friend will become a client.”

Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the most dynamic aspects of the beauty industry is its continuous evolution to meet the changing demands and needs of clients. I truly appreciate the opportunity for ongoing education and growth in this field—there’s always something new to learn, ensuring that boredom is never an option. It’s all about adaptability and innovation, and I embrace the necessity to pivot and evolve with the industry.
