As a person of color who doesn’t conform to the dominant Christian narrative, I’ve encountered challenges in garnering support from friends and family. Some have expressed concerns or misconceptions about my business, which can be disheartening. However, I’ve come to realize that these reactions don’t define the validity of what I do. Instead of focusing on those who might not understand, I’ve channeled my energy into connecting with individuals who resonate with my offerings and share an open-minded perspective. It’s been a valuable lesson in understanding my target audience and embracing my authentic identity.
One particular incident stands out, when a close friend’s mother expressed reservations about my services, associating them with something “evil.” While it was hurtful, it underscored the need to stand strong in my beliefs and remain true to who I am. This experience taught me the importance of aligning with a supportive community that values my work.
Ultimately, I’ve realized that running a successful business requires resilience and a clear sense of purpose. While it’s natural to desire support from loved ones, I’ve found empowerment in appealing to those who appreciate my services for what they truly are. Majority of my new clients come from referrals from previous clients, and I attribute this to the exceptional customer service and unique experience I offer. Providing a service that stands out and makes a lasting impression is something I take great pride in.

I believe that clear and consistent communication not only builds trust but also creates a deeper connection. What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
a lesson that I had to unlearn was the idea that I needed to have extensive knowledge before diving into any spiritual practice or ritual. When I initially started my journey into reading tarot, I approached it with the belief that I needed to be fully informed and prepared before engaging in any form of spiritual work. However, this mindset led me to overlook some crucial aspects of the practice.
Early on in my tarot reading journey, I encountered an unexpected emotional toll that the practice could have on me. I also underestimated the importance of closing spiritual portals after each reading and properly cleansing the energy. This lack of awareness resulted in me feeling emotionally heavy and physically fatigued over time. One particularly alarming incident involved a sage bundle catching fire and even shattering a bowl, creating a moment of chaos.
It was this incident that prompted me to share my experience with my spiritual sisters, who then reached out with valuable insights. This eye-opening event pushed me to expand my knowledge and establish a routine for protecting my energy whenever engaging in spiritual work. As an empath, I recognized the need to extend this practice into my everyday life, as I found myself affected by various environments like airports and grocery stores.
This journey of unlearning and relearning highlighted that while there may not be strict rules in spiritual work, knowledge is indeed crucial for both personal wellbeing and the safety of others. I came to understand that while spiritual practices are often intention-based and deeply personal, there are instances where a foundation of knowledge is imperative to navigate the energies involved.
In essence, my experience taught me that while our spiritual journeys are uniquely our own, a balance between intuition and informed understanding is essential.
