Ava , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?

What it takes to be successful is a positive mindset and a passion for what you do. Doing what you love serves your higher self and allows you to help others in return. For co-owners Ava and Andrea at Turn A New Leaf, success is creating. We create new plants from various propagation methods. We create education programs. We creator custom hand-painted planters that you cannot find anywhere else. We create party and other event favors. And most importantly, we create happiness for our customers through serving our higher purpose with Turn A New Leaf.

Ava , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

One winter day, Ava went to bring Andrea some plants and took one look at the garden room space and said, “We could sell these.” Within 24 hours we listed our monstera adansonii clippings and sold them immediately. So it began… Turn A New Leaf NJ became our lives, our passion and our joy. Nurturing mother plants, propagating clippings and growing plants from seed. We moved from selling small quantities locally to vending at craft shows and markets. Our ideas continue to spark new ideas and the more we do, the more we grow (no pun intended). We are plant enthusiasts with diverse expertise. Ava, our plant expert, holds degrees in Agriculture and Food Systems (Rutgers University) and Sustainability Management (Stevens College). Andrea, our business expert, has degrees in Mathematics and Management (LeMoyne College), a culinary degree (The Institute of Culinary Education), and experience in finance, restaurant kitchens, teaching baking, and publishing a cookbook. Our varied backgrounds and generations complement each other, equipping us with the skills needed to launch our business.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

Ava was friends with Andrea’s son first! Once Ava and Andrea met, they were an unstoppable force. Always cracking jokes and coming up with innovative ways to concoct a thriving business.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Our Instagram is our most popular platform! We promote it at all of our markets with a QR code at our booth. For anyone starting out, STAY CONSISTENT. In person networking and connection is key for piquing interest of customers.
