Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Autumn Price Venice Scorzato. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Autumn Price, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
The two of us started as aspiring content creators that decided to start a cocktail creation series on TikTok just for fun. Shortly after getting started, we both were curious as to what long form content creating would look like. We were already loving the joke riffing we had going on in our short form content, and we knew we wanted to take it a step further. After contemplating what types of long form content we could make, we ultimately decided on starting a podcast in order to have the necessary time to display our comedic dynamic in a way we prefer. Little did we know that starting a podcast for the very first time would come with its own challenges that neither one of us anticipated. Coming up with a fun and catchy name for our podcast was one of the first and easier challenges we faced, and with brainstorming multiple different combinations of attention catching words that would work for our brand, after days of back and forth contemplation, we landed on “Femme Fiasco.” Starting up this podcast, we came to quickly realize, became nothing short of a fiasco itself. After creating all of our different podcast pages and channels, Venice wanted to set up an at home studio and began looking into different equipment to purchase. Trying to create a podcast studio in your own home comes with trial and error, making unnecessary purchases, needing to make unexpected purchases, hours of Venice online watching YouTube tutorials on how to set up certain equipment to a MacBook laptop to record, how to edit a podcast after filming, how to get different microphones synced with one another, and so much more. Even after hours of research, there was still so much more to learn and tackle with creating a podcast from scratch without an agency to do the work for you. It took about an entire week just for Venice to get the correct equipment for us both record the first episode, and once the technology part of the whole gig was sorted out, we set a day and time to film our first episode of the Femme Fiasco Podcast in September of 2023. Filming our first episode, “The Pilot,” shortly became a frustrating fiasco within itself. Our first issue at hand was that we were extremely nervous and had never talked for a whole hour on camera before, so right off of the bat we were intimidated by the bright lights and microphones in front of us, and it showed right through the lens. Speaking of the camera lens, we decided to try and record our first episode with an old DSLR camera that would ultimately would end up timing out on us every 25 minutes, and we would have to cut and try to pivot with every interruption, on top of first day jitters. We ultimately decided to record the podcast on an iPhone camera instead, since the 2015 Canon Rebel t6 kept letting us down. With only a few minor audio errors, we were able to record our first episode, edit the footage, and upload the final product to all platforms. Little did we know that in the weeks to come, there would be more fiasco to follow suit. Both episodes three and four of the Femme Fiasco Podcast don’t have video footage for them, and has been completely lost due to an old MacBook Air that simply didn’t have the capacity to record, edit, hold footage, and export a quality podcast properly. Venice had to upgrade her MacBook, another unexpected purchase, in order to keep the dream and previous hard work alive and well. After accumulating the upgraded equipment and getting into the groove of having a filming and editing schedule, the podcast became smooth sailing. Quickly enough, recording together every week grew to be such a gratifying way for us to express our comedic sides with one another and share that with a potential audience.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We both live in Salt Lake City, Utah. Autumn is from Houston, Texas and Venice is from Draper, Utah. Autumn moved to Utah in 2006 and we both met at Juan Diego Catholic High School as students in our freshman year. We were best friends freshman year, almost as soon as we met, and had the strongest friendship our senior year at Juan Diego. Both of us took Advanced Dance and Advanced Tech Theater, and that is truly when our entertaining duo of us being the high school comedians began to rise and grow. As early as on as then, we knew we had a special dynamic with keeping people entertained. In high school and now with Femme Fiasco Podcast, we believe that we offer others not only a comedic relief, but sense of friendship that others can connect with through the screen or audio of our episodes. The way we are able to joke with one another in a lighthearted way, even when we don’t agree with one another, is something we find to be unique about us. Sometimes with other podcasts, the cohosts tend to share the same opinion on certain topics, but that’s not always the case with us, and we own it. The both of us together and separately have gone through so much throughout our mere 23 years of life, but with all of that trauma comes a sense of wisdom that we like to turn into comedy for those who might be able to relate. We are the most proud of the fact that we took an idea and were able to bring it to life, despite all of the challenges that came along with the process. We are beyond proud that this our own idea, our own project, nobody else owns it but us, and that we have full and complete creative control over the vision and brand of Femme Fiasco Podcast. Us both love to pride ourselves in the fact that our community is a judgement free space and that we are always welcome to new opinions and outlooks on life. Something we would want to let our audience know is that not only are we grateful for anyone who has ever tuned in, but that if we can follow our dreams, so can you!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a podcast host is seeing our audience come together and care about what we have to say on different podcast topics. Seeing our subscribers show us love on our weekly episodes makes us want to only get better at our craft for their sole enjoyment. The two of us being able to come together and sit down in the same room with microphones in hand is rewarding in itself, truly. There is nothing like the feeling of following your dreams with your best friend and getting positive feedback from it.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What I think was crucial to build the reputation of Femme Fiasco Podcast and being in the podcast space in general is the fact that regardless of the situation or obstacle at hand, we have been consistent with a weekly episode since the first episode release on October 6, 2023. No matter if we had lost footage, needed to prerecord multiple episodes in one night due to future scheduling conflicts, coordinate on the spot podcast topics, or plan out podcast related inquiries in advance, we did what was necessary for the two of us to consistently build rapport through our content to our small, but growing audience.
