We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Autumn Carter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Autumn, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
The actual process of starting my business began with a clear moment of realization during my time back in school. I was working on finishing my undergrad degree and had taken a course called *The Helping Relationship*. It was in this class that I felt a strong pull toward coaching, as it opened my eyes to how deeply our wellness affects not only ourselves but those around us. The idea of helping others navigate their own wellness journey resonated with me, but at that point, I wasn’t entirely sure how to move forward with it.
After the course, I confided in a friend about this calling, and she encouraged me to speak with her sister, who was already a life coach. That conversation was the spark that shifted everything. Suddenly, coaching wasn’t just an idea—it was something real and attainable. I saw how coaching could be transformative, and it was in that moment I decided to pursue it fully. I began by researching coaching certifications, looking at different programs, and identifying the path I wanted to take.
In the following weeks, I enrolled in a coaching certification program. That was my first real step toward making this business a reality. Each day, I would work on completing my courses while also thinking about what my business would look like—who I wanted to help, how I would structure my programs, and what kind of support I could offer. The process wasn’t immediate. It was a mix of education and vision, with a lot of trial and error in between.
Over the next few months, I started laying the groundwork. I had to figure out the practical aspects of starting a business—setting up a website, deciding on branding, and identifying the services I would offer. I also had to learn about things like client onboarding, payment systems, and how to market my coaching programs. One of the first things I did was build a website, which made everything feel real. It wasn’t just about coaching anymore; it was about creating a place where people could find me and where I could help them.
At the same time, I was also working through my own parenting challenges. I had a neurodivergent child, and the experience of learning how to better connect with them fueled my desire to become a parenting coach. So, while I was building my wellness coaching practice, I also earned a certification in parenting coaching. It was important for me to weave my personal experiences into my work, so that I could offer a more empathetic and informed perspective to other parents facing similar challenges.
The actual launch of my business came after a year of building. By the time I had my certifications and business foundations in place, I started offering one-on-one coaching sessions. My wellness coaching focused on helping people find balance in their lives, while my parenting coaching allowed me to guide parents toward more meaningful connections with their children. Along the way, I found myself helping other coaches with their own businesses—sharing tips, strategies, and mentoring them on how to grow their practice. This naturally led me into business coaching as well, a path I hadn’t expected but that felt like a perfect fit given the skills I’d developed.
The main steps from idea to execution involved a lot of learning, building, and adjusting. I had to research certifications, set up the practical aspects of running a business, and figure out what systems worked best for me. But the most important step was just taking action—starting with one thing and building on it until my vision came together. It wasn’t a linear path; it was a series of small, consistent actions that eventually brought my business to life. Looking back, I realize that each challenge I faced—whether it was figuring out how to connect with my child or learning how to build a website—helped me grow into the coach I am today.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Autumn Carter, and I’ve spent years carving out a space where wellness, parenthood, and business can all harmoniously coexist. My journey into this field began when I returned to school to finish my undergrad degree, immersing myself in courses focused on wellness. What truly shaped my path, though, was a course called *The Helping Relationship*, which opened my eyes to the transformative power of coaching. That class set me on a journey toward becoming a wellness advocate and parenting mentor, but the evolution of my business has grown in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
I offer a variety of services, each tailored to different aspects of life—wellness, parenting, and business mentoring. One of my most impactful programs is *Stop Yelling at Your Kids*, where I guide parents through the often overwhelming challenges of raising children while maintaining their own sense of peace and identity. It’s not just about managing behavior—it’s about helping parents reconnect with themselves and find more effective, compassionate ways to communicate. Through personalized coaching, I help parents break the cycle of stress and frustration, creating homes filled with more calm and connection.
My role as a wellness advocate means that I help individuals find balance in all areas of life, from emotional and physical well-being to mental clarity and spiritual growth. What I’ve learned through my own wellness journey, particularly while raising a neurodivergent child, is that balance isn’t about perfection—it’s about knowing when to step back, reset, and nurture yourself so you can show up fully for the people you love and the things that matter to you.
One of the areas I’ve expanded into is business coaching. It began naturally—I was constantly helping other coaches and entrepreneurs figure out how to align their personal values with their business goals. I realized that helping people craft purpose-driven careers was just as important to me as helping them find balance in their personal lives. So now, I offer business mentoring that focuses on building sustainable, values-aligned success. I’m particularly passionate about working with individuals who want to pursue business goals without sacrificing their own well-being.
What sets my work apart is that I’ve walked the same path as many of my clients. I’ve had to learn how to balance the demands of motherhood, wellness, and building a business. I’ve faced the emotional challenges of raising children while trying to maintain my own identity. These experiences have given me a unique perspective and a deep empathy for the struggles that others face. It’s not just theoretical for me—I’m living it, too.
I’m most proud of the transformations I’ve seen in the lives of my clients. Whether it’s a parent who goes from feeling constantly overwhelmed to finding peace and joy in their daily routine, or an entrepreneur who finally feels like their work reflects their true self, it’s those moments of breakthrough that fuel my passion for this work.
For anyone considering working with me, I want them to know that my approach is holistic and compassionate. I’m not here to give quick fixes or one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, I meet people where they are, providing them with practical strategies that fit into the context of their lives, all while offering emotional support as they navigate their own journey.
My business, *Wellness in Every Season*, is rooted in the belief that every phase of life—whether it’s a season of growth, challenge, or change—holds the potential for transformation. My goal is to help people see that wellness isn’t about striving for perfection but about finding balance, connecting deeply with yourself and others, and creating a life that feels aligned with your true values. Whether you’re looking to reconnect with your family, find peace within yourself, or build a purpose-driven career, I’m here to support you on that journey.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been participating in newsletter bundles. These bundles allow me to connect with a much wider audience by offering something valuable in collaboration with other coaches, entrepreneurs, or wellness experts. By contributing a freebie, course, or program to these bundles, I’m able to introduce my work to people who may not have otherwise discovered it. The great thing about these collaborations is that they create a mutual exchange—everyone involved is sharing their expertise, and the audience gets access to a variety of resources in one place.
One of the key insights I’ve gained from this strategy is timing. I’ve noticed that the best time to find new bundles is on Sundays, as most people tend to post about them late Saturday. This habit of seeking out new opportunities at a specific time has allowed me to stay on top of new collaborations and consistently engage with fresh audiences.
These newsletter bundles have been instrumental in growing not just my list of subscribers but also my broader community. Through these bundles, I’ve seen a ripple effect—many people who find me through one bundle end up joining my programs, participating in my coaching, or sharing my resources with others. It’s been a powerful way to grow my reach while offering real value to those who are seeking support in wellness, parenting, or business coaching.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A significant lesson I had to unlearn was relying on the traditional, “normal” methods of marketing that everyone else seemed to use. Early in my journey, I followed the typical advice—running ads, using generic email templates, and focusing on broad, surface-level marketing tactics that I thought were essential for success. But over time, I realized that these strategies weren’t resonating with the kind of community I wanted to build.
The backstory is that when I first started my business, I felt pressure to do things “the right way” according to mainstream marketing standards. I would spend hours tweaking ads, trying to figure out the best time to post on social media, and using the same marketing funnels that seemed to be everywhere. But the truth is, it felt disconnected. I wasn’t reaching the people I wanted to serve, and more importantly, I wasn’t enjoying the process.
I started to question whether these methods were really the best fit for my business. That’s when I shifted my focus to more authentic, personalized approaches, like participating in newsletter bundles. I found that this approach allowed me to connect with like-minded individuals in a more meaningful way, sharing real value and building relationships rather than just trying to sell. I realized that I didn’t have to follow the same path as everyone else. By focusing on what felt genuine to me and aligning my marketing strategies with my own values, I was able to grow my business in a way that felt fulfilling and true to my mission.
Unlearning the “normal” methods of marketing has been a freeing experience. It allowed me to step away from the noise and focus on connecting with people in a way that aligns with my values. That authenticity has made all the difference in growing a community that feels engaged, connected, and genuinely interested in what I offer.
