We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Autumn Blackmon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Autumn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I’m hoping to build a legacy of generational wealth something that my ancestors could have only dreamed of. I hope that my legacy will be one that my grandchildren’s great grandchildren will enjoy researching learning about what I was able to accomplish and hopefully how I was able to put everyone after me in a position to live a lucrative life. I think that when I’m gone people will have a lot of things to say about me maybe they’ll say I was ambitious or that I was bossy, opinionated, or humorous. What people won’t be able to say that I was not dedicated to my family, my business and being a person with integrity.
I hope to be remembered as a loving and supportive mom to my son and any future children I may have. To my family I hope to be remembered as a person that you could always depend on. To the world I hope to be remembered as a boss a** b****

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I inherited baking from my mother and my grandmother they owned a bakery for about 10 years but had to close due to business conditions. I later picked it back up in my adult years and really enjoyed it. I quit my job on my 21st birthday after just a few months of pursuing a baking career I didn’t have much income but it seemed to be promising. On my 23rd birthday I opened my first location. I will be 28 this year and I’m still enjoying my career.
At the Boujie bakery we provide cakes, cupcakes, cheesecakes, brownies and more!
What we are looking forward to the most is getting our products sold in local and regional retailers so that everyone around the U.S can have a taste of the Boujie bakery!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think that having a good product is single-handedly built my reputation as a baker. I take quality very seriously. If not had my name on it. It has to be as close to perfect as possible.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
At the time I didn’t have any bills so any money I was making was really straight profit besides for the re-up for supplies so saving the money was very easy. And at the time I was making money so fast once my clientele started to grow I just saved everything I could. I would do 10-12 cakes a weekend and for an at home baked that was a lot! How many cakes can you hold in your fridge? LOL. I ended up saving 40k in a little less than a year and put every single dollar into my first storefront.
