Austin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
It all started back when I was creating fun dance videos on an app musically back in 2017. I loved creating a video that represented my personality and sharing it with the world. After creating videos on musically for a couple months, I gained traction and grew to 30,000 followers. It was at this point that I started putting my focus back on school and spots and stopped creating videos. A year later, I heard that musically was turning into Tiktok. I came back to musically final week and realized that all the old people I use to watch that were small creators had grown to become famous celebrities. The secret was they didn’t stop when I did.
This hit me deep, and I realized what I lost because I gave up on my passion. When musically merged into Tiktok I decided to make it my #1 priority and posted 3 videos every day for two years. I started to gain a lot of traction. I moved from my 30,000 followers to 7 million in a year. It was working I was getting closer to my dream of being the biggest creator in the world.
This was when I was being presented with going to college. I decided to go to college. In the span of a year, I lost my traction again. I got way to focused on studying and school and was not able to maintain my posting schedule.
At the end of the year I had a decision to make. I could either fall into my old pattern and go all in on school, or take the biggest risk of my life and drop school and become a full time content creator.
I decided to take that risk and drop out of college.
I put all my effort into social media and went from that 7 Million Tiktok followers to 17 Million. I was the 14th most viewed Tiktok creator of 2020 with 3.4 Billion views across my content in just that year.
I then moved into other platforms, YouTube being my most recent and become one of the most watched shorts creators on the app doing 4B views in a year. I even had one video get half of a billion views and is now the 8th most viewed short video on all of YouTube.
Growing my channels allowed me to move into other avenues. Recently I was invited to box on a stage infant of millions of views online. I trained for months and had the best boxing match of my life. It was the most surreal experience to have a crowed of people all cheering for you as you step into a boxing ring.
All this was possible because of one huge risk that I took. It was the biggest blessing I have ever had.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
What makes me so unique is my mindset. I grew up in a family that was heavily involved in personal development. This allowed me to become extremely disciplined in my craft. I spent a lot of time working on my health to have the most energy I could. A lot of time learning how to meditate and clear my headspace so I wouldn’t get burnt out.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to leave a massive impact in this world. I want to create and earn more so I can give more. I want to make this world a better place than I found it.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
A book that had a huge impact on me was “The One Thing” by Book by Gary W. Keller and Jay Papasan. It is a simple book that teaches how important it is to do the most important thing first everyday.
Essentially, we go through life checking off to do lists, although most these things we check off don’t push us to the next level.
The book explains how you need to make sure the first thing you do everyday is the most important thing that gets you closet to your 5 year goal.
This really helped me get a better idea of where my priorities were at and put most of my focus on the most important parts of my career.
