We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Austin Parker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Austin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
At APFit we’ve had 6 Clients who were able to get off their high blood pressure medication. We also had 4 clients who were able to get off their diabetes medication. For me this is what’s it’s all about. We don’t just specialize in weight loss , but we are helping change the entire lifestyle of those in our FitFamily.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
After 4 years of NCAA Basketball I took an internship with the Strength and Conditioning Department at my University. There I fell in love with coaching and being able to help athletes grow in strength, athleticism and mostly grow in confidence.
When I returned home from school after graduating I took a corporate job and started training a few people on the side and it gave me so much life and fulfillment. My job began to be a major source of anxiety and my desire to be full time as a trainer grew daily. Then when the pandemic hit I was laid off from my job at JPMorgan and I knew this was my sign to not take another job, and trust God!
Since that day I have been living my dream as a full time entrepreneur, helping people reach their goals! I even have been contracted to speak to different organizations about goal setting, health and wellness , and how my Faith kept me sane through this rollercoaster of a journey.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When the pandemic hit gyms were completely shut down. I had no idea what to do , but I knew we couldn’t stop getting people moving. I started going live on FB and IG twice a week offering free workouts to follow along with. I added my CashApp , and other payment information for donations and the response blew me anyway each time. I was also offering Zoom group sessions during the week for clients. I then went to my parents neighborhood and start working out with the kids in the neighborhood, and this grew so much so that it attached 2 news stations to cover the brand which was a tremendous opportunity.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My partners in business and my sister Treese Parker and girl friend Daryl Griffith. They have been so vital in the growth of APFit. Acting as coaches, working front desk, and helping out with events. They are high energy and so welcoming to all that come into an APFit experience. With large groups it’s very difficult for me to chat with everyone every class, but my coaches help lift everyone up, answer questions, and carry the load. I owe them absolutely everything, and I’m excited to continue this journey with such intelligent, hard working and genuine ladies.
