We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Austin Courtney a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Austin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
Surprisingly, starting from scratch is the most exciting part of the content journey. You can post whatever you’d like, without having to worry about an audience not reacting well. I have created multiple new accounts just to chase that initial feeling – of not caring about perfection and just posting. My biggest tip of advice for people just starting is simply, enjoy the process. The beginning is the most enjoyable part of the creation. The goal should be creating a consistent schedule for posting, and working on improving your skills video by video. Eventually if you are constantly improving your production little by little, you will have an end result that you are proud of. As long as you are proud of what you create then there is nothing else to worry about.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a content creator based out of Philadelphia who wants to inspire others creativity. I understand how difficult it may be sometimes to be creative solely on your own. The message I want to spread – is that you can create things starting today. I want everyone to contribute to their creative side. I started making content seriously in January of 2022 and ever since have been addicted to it. It started quite slow, but eventually I began to garner a community. I’m still learning a lot about content creation and am far from where i’d like to be!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, I want to shape myself a year from now into a person I look up to. Always improving yourself is a huge pillar to why I create. Creating content is not only fun, but serves as a base for improvement through out life. My first videos were terrible, and my new videos still aren’t quite to where i’d like them to be, but just seeing the improvement in general is something i’m proud of. Improvement is an extremely important part of life that I try to emphasize as much as I can.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
“You need to be realistic and grounded”. This sentence is my biggest pet peeve to hear. I strive to be someone who does not conform to this idea. I’m a firm believer that you can escape your mind and manipulate energy to achieve what you’d like. Having a growth mindset paired with ample confidence can help you achieve anything you want.
