We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ausha Anderson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ausha , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
When I was 18 I always wanted to be an aesthetician but everyone in utah in my head was already one so why would I want to be like everyone else right? Fast forward I worked at Mac, Sephora, freelance makeup artist and did sales. It which worked out great but then found myself wanting more. I always knew what that MORE was. I was 24 & ready to finally take the leap go to school. I went to school full time for 10 months and starting working right away. I found myself helping my trainer/mentor with classes and running her business which I feel like gave me a lot of experience and trail/ error later in my career. A year later I opened my first little suite with about 3-4 beds. Then 6-8 months in I opened my first real shop. Then a year after that moved across the street to a building triple the size and rebuilt most of the building for the services & artists I wanted to be at the location. It has been a crazy few years but I am so grateful for the growth & support I have received. I look back and think if I wouldn’t have been my own worst enemy- I thought just because everyone else was doing something I couldn’t. Which totally isn’t the case. NO ONE is you and that is your POWER. I let my own self hold myself back and could of done this so much sooner.

Ausha , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the industry from loving makeup, doing makeup for a living + my love for people.
I do permanent makeup services, esthetic services and train others in what I do at an institute.
I personally feel like what sets me apart from others is my experience I give my clients the moment they walk in the door and my passion for what I do. I feel like a lot of people are driven by income and that is never been the case for me. I’m driven by change and making a difference. That is one of the things I’m most proud of.
I want to be a change in my clients lives but also be someone other artists can trust, guide & be there to support them. Building a community where we all succeed together. There is room for everyone and I feel like we are so powerful together.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I worked everyday for almost 2 years and saved and saved and saved. I honestly never had a concrete plan and never knew what I wanted yet somehow I knew if I had the drive and passion it would work out.
I saved as much as I could to help pay for my renovations + new shops and charged anything else I couldn’t initially pay for knowing I would pay it off after. I continued to work while doing my shops as well knowing I was doing this all by myself.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My #1 Be yourself, don’t care what others think. Be authentic. Show the world YOU. The people that want to love you, that want to support you, they WILL. If you don’t you will have the wrong audience and the people you didn’t want in the first place. I used to keep it all business for the first few years but I have learned people love people not brands. I have posted more personal things on my business page from clothes to makeup to situations I’ve been in so people can get to know me and know who they are coming to. I’m not an artist, I’m human & I think people love to see that. They resonate with that more than seeing someone tattooing a pair of brows.
