We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ausha a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ausha , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Ever since I was a child I knew I was going to sing! I grew up singing in church and fell in love with R&B, the arts in general wears where I felt safe. Music is a beautiful thing, but gospel and contemporary gospel is what I sing now and I’m so fulfilled.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m originally from Mobile, Alabama I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia I’m a singer and songwriter who loves The Lord! I grew up loving to sing, act and dance. I knew from a very early age that I wanted to entertain, and I fell in love with all types of music. I didn’t release my first song until 2016 and I was actually very nervous to release “Hold Me,” but after I did the reaction that I got was overwhelming and a couple years later I end up releasing “Safe Haven” and my first Christian song “Yahweh.” My boyfriend, TayCreations, is my producer and he really encouraged me to release more music and seeing him produce made me love it even more. My single “Yahweh,” really changed the trajectory of my sound from completing the song in just one take and being lead by The Holy Spirit through finishing the second verse; I just knew that that was my calling. For a time I still went back-and-forth with myself to create R&B music, but to be completely totally honest my Christian music sounds like R&B, so I thought that was cool that I can still have the sound, but be praising and worshiping the Lord. I’m most proud of my growth and confidence in the Lord, but that was not done by me that was definitely done by Him pruning, evolving, and also transforming me into who needs me to be, and now, knowing that He created me to be a worshiper and praise Him is such a beautiful thing to be a vessel to further His kingdom. I am literally just a vessel. I thank The Lord for the voice that He has given me, but at the end of the day it’s not my own. It’s to worship and praise Him, so whoever is touched by what they hear even if it just plants a seed that makes me fulfilled and knowing that I’m doing what He put me here to do it’s the best reward a girl could ask for!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
To be one of the best artists for Jesus I can be. That my life, trails, and testimony glorifies Him in all aspects. I literally want to be a representation of His glory.. that’s it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Knowing why I’m here and not compromising regardless of what society may want from a young singer/songwriter these days. I know whose I am. People hear God’s true glory through this voice, that’s a reward in itself you know..
