We recently connected with Aura Jade and have shared our conversation below.
Aura, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
In 2021 I had dropped my first mixtape titled “9” that I engineered , recorded and spent time writing and putting together. All by myself. Back then I was very new to mixing down my own music and looking back, the quality wasn’t the best, but I was proud of myself and the project was very intimate at that time in my life. It was a mixture of feelings and things I had had realizations about and just overall claiming my power back from situations. I had just had a daughter in 2019 and I did kind of get deterred from music after becoming a mother, but this mixtape I spent time creating sparked a new light in me and reminded me to not give up on my passion just because life is different.
Aura, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been around music since I was a baby. As a toddler, my father would play the African drum and the keyboard so I was introduced to making music through him. Through out my child hood, I wrote music. I’ve always loved music and everything to do with it. By time I was a junior in highschool I went to a professional studio and recorded my first rap song called “No Stress”. My peers seemed to like the song and I knew that they believed in me almost more than myself. I kept notebooks of written music most of my life. After being introduced to recording things just kept going up hill and I began focusing on bettering my craft. I did my first show in 2017 at “Girls wanna have funds” and I would do in various parts of Atlanta. Over time I’ve been trying to figure out myself and where I want to be with my music. I’ve had set backs and had to learn and unlearn a few things I thought I knew, but overall I’m still perfecting my craft and I hope the world can know who I am one day. One thing about me is I’ve always been really ambitious and optimistic and I know as long as I’m putting forth the effort, my time to be heard will come. No matter how slow things get, I’ll never give up.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I’m an artist but I’m also in school for integrative healing arts. I’ve been reading some really good books in my life coaching class and one of my favorites have been “The Upside To Stress”. I learned that all stress isn’t bad, and sometimes stress can be beneficial, especially if it’s tied to something meaningful in your life. Having a growth mindset is key! I don’t want to limit myself, so if something is meaningful to me, I’m going to make sure to deal with it in a way that won’t burn me out, but also keeps me thriving.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is those people who I can connect with that appreciate the art. I want to be able to share my art and let people use that as a way to empower themselves. Not everyone will resonate and that’s okay!
