Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aura. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
AURA, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Three years ago, I took one of the most defining risks of my life, quitting a secure, well-paying full-time job as a software engineer to pursue my passion for music. At the time, I was balancing a stable career with my weekend hobby of DJing. But when I discovered that my employer wasn’t supportive of my passion for music, I realized I had to make a choice: continue down a well-established but unfulfilling path, or take a leap of faith into the unknown world of music and performance.
The decision wasn’t easy, and it came with significant pressure. My family and friends, understandably concerned about the risks of leaving a stable career, were not fully supportive. Yet, I felt an undeniable pull toward the music industry. The job I had was comfortable, yes, but it wasn’t aligned with who I truly was. I felt stifled, as though I was living someone else’s version of success. My gut told me that I needed to explore something more authentic, and for me, that was music.
I handed in my notice, knowing that the road ahead would be uncertain. But in doing so, I embraced the possibility of becoming a female DJ and music producer—something I had only dreamed of before. Since then, I’ve never looked back. This risk, though daunting at the time, has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It has allowed me to perform at incredible festivals, collaborate with talented artists, and ultimately become the person I always aspired to be.
If I hadn’t taken that leap of faith, I would still be stuck in a job that didn’t inspire me, and I wouldn’t be living the fulfilling life I’m so grateful for today. Taking that risk allowed me to step into a career I am deeply passionate about, and it has opened doors I never thought possible.
In hindsight, I now see that the greatest risk of all would have been not taking the leap at all. I’m proud of the person I’ve become, and every day I’m reminded that sometimes the biggest risks lead to the most rewarding experiences.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
About Me and My Journey into Music
I’m AURA, a passionate female DJ and music producer who made a bold career shift from software engineering to the world of music. My journey into this industry was not a conventional one, but it’s been an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling path. I’ve always been deeply connected to music, but it wasn’t until a few years ago, when I found myself in a career that didn’t truly reflect who I was, that I realized I needed to make a change. My passion for music had always been a weekend pursuit, DJing at local events and honing my craft in my spare time, but I knew I couldn’t keep pushing this dream aside.
I took a risk and walked away from a secure job as a full-time software engineer to pursue my passion full-time. This decision wasn’t easy, and I faced a lot of uncertainty and resistance from those around me. However, deep down, I knew that music was where my heart and soul truly belonged. That leap of faith has led me to where I am today: a DJ, music producer, and artist who’s been able to perform at major venues, collaborate with other talented creators, and carve out a unique space in the music industry.
What I Offer and the Problems I Solve
As a DJ and music producer, my goal is to create unforgettable experiences for my audiences, blending unique sounds and genres to keep the energy high and the crowd engaged. I specialize in House, melodic techno, and electronica, and my sets are designed to evoke emotion, bring people together, and create a vibrant atmosphere. In addition to DJing, I also produce my own music, which is a fusion of melodic vocals, high energy beats and Deep rhythms.
For my clients, whether they’re event organizers, festival producers, or private clients, I provide high-energy sets that cater to their specific audience, elevating the experience with personalized music curation and seamless transitions. What sets me apart is my dedication to not just playing music, but creating a journey for the audience. I tailor every set to the vibe of the event, and I put immense effort into making sure the atmosphere feels alive and transformative.
What Sets Me Apart
What truly distinguishes me from others in the industry is my authenticity and my commitment to pursuing music as both a craft and a passion. I didn’t just jump into this career to chase fame or success, I took the risk because music is a part of who I am. The dedication to my craft, combined with my diverse background and experiences, allows me to offer a unique perspective and sound that resonates with people. I’m not just a DJ, I’m an artist, a creator, and someone who genuinely cares about connecting with my audience.
Additionally, as a female DJ and producer in an industry that’s still heavily male-dominated, I’m particularly proud to be a part of a movement that’s encouraging more diversity and representation.
I take this role seriously, and I hope my work inspires other women and underrepresented groups to pursue their passions, regardless of societal norms or barriers.
What I’m Most Proud Of
One of the things I’m most proud of is the growth and success I’ve experienced since making the leap into full-time music. I’ve been able to perform at major venues, collaborate with some incredible artists, and share my music with people all over the world. But what I’m truly proud of is the fact that I stayed true to myself, despite the challenges and uncertainties that came with leaving a stable career. The decision to pursue my passion was the most difficult but rewarding thing I’ve ever done, and seeing how far I’ve come is a constant reminder that the greatest rewards come from taking risks.
What I Want My Followers and Clients to Know
For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want you to know that my work is about more than just music. It’s about creating an experience, a moment that you can feel and remember long after the night ends. I’m committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in music, constantly experimenting and evolving my sound.
My brand is all about authenticity, passion, and innovation. Whether you’re a fan of my DJ sets, a client seeking a unique performance for an event, or someone who resonates with the energy and vibe I bring to my music, I’m here to connect and create something truly special.
I encourage anyone who feels passionate about something, no matter how unconventional it may seem, to pursue it with all their heart. Life’s too short to stay in a box or live according to other people’s expectations. If you follow your passion, even when it feels risky, the rewards can be beyond anything you ever imagined.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
1. Provide Access to Funding and Resources
Artists often face financial barriers, especially early in their careers when they are building their craft or establishing their brand. Societies can help by providing accessible funding opportunities, grants, and scholarships that allow artists to invest in their work without the constant pressure of financial survival. This would enable artists to focus on creating, collaborating, and innovating, rather than worrying about how to make ends meet.
2. Foster Creative Education
It’s crucial that we invest in arts education, not just in traditional settings like schools, but also through community programs, workshops, and mentorships. Creativity and artistic expression should be valued alongside traditional academic subjects, and society needs to encourage and support young people who may be drawn to the arts. Providing access to education in the arts empowers the next generation of creators, diversifying the kinds of work being produced and creating a richer cultural landscape.
3. Normalize and Value the Role of Artists
The value of art, whether in the form of music, visual art, dance, or theater, is often underestimated or overlooked in favor of more “practical” careers. This needs to change. Art is an integral part of human culture and society. Artists reflect the times we live in, challenge societal norms, and offer a mirror to our world. When we see artists as essential contributors to our collective well-being, rather than as “hobbyists” or “luxuries” we’ll start treating their work with the respect and appreciation it deserves.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to connect with people on a deeply emotional level through my work. Music, in particular, has a unique power to transcend boundaries—whether they’re cultural, social, or personal and create moments of unity and shared experience. When I’m behind the decks or when someone listens to my tracks, it’s incredibly fulfilling to know that what I’m creating is resonating with others. I’m not just sharing music; I’m sharing a feeling, an experience, a part of my soul.
