We recently connected with Aura and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Aura thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
In 2017, I was 20 years old and had been 2 years into community college unsure of what or who I wanted to be in life. My father, older brother, and older sister were musicians, and I had watched their musical endeavors unfold my whole life. Ive seen the pros and cons of what a life dedicated to music could be, and before that November I wanted no parts of it. In the midst of my anxiety, I decided to put on my favorite songs from my childhood just to bring me back to a mental space where I could feel like my most child-like self and escape the thoughts of the future. After a few songs, I decided to look at the song credits which I never really did before, and I noticed that the songs I loved most were all produced by the same people, The Neptunes. It blew my mind! As a child I didn’t pay attention too deeply about the creation of music because I had grown up dead set on not pursuing music.I had always been interested in playing the piano and the violin ever since I was a kid, but only learned how to play songs that I would hear in the JRPG video games I would play. But when I realized how important a producer could be, something told me to open up the Garage Band on my iPhone and give it a try. Fell in love instantly and haven’t stopped since.

Aura, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I create music straight from my heart, combining chords and melodies to get closer to the ideas I hear in my head. Although at the moment I’m not able to fully encapsulate my ideas and execute them the way I want to, I know I’m getting closer every step forward I take. My mission I would say is to combine my greatest musical influences across all styles, the big 3 being The Neptunes, Tyler the Creator, and soundtracks from JRPG video games, to create something new and beautiful. Quality over quantity is what I believe in so I take time and patience with my art, but also try my best not to be too much of a perfectionist at the same time. I bring a new take on how melodies communicate and blend with each other and I take great pride in the music that I’ve made thus far.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being a creative is seeing the expressions people have the first time they hear something that I’ve created or been apart of. Whether it brings them joy or makes them upset, I like to see exactly what part of the piece caused that reaction. So that I could either further build on that idea or cut back on some things I may have tried that isn’t being received well. Being able to cause another person to feel an emotion with music is an amazing feeling to me, I look forward to see more of that in the future

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by my dream of composing soundtracks for video games. Watching or playing through a great story and hearing the most amazing piece of music you wouldn’t hear on the radio or TV is a personal pleasure of mine. I wouldn’t have loved music the way I do without beautiful soundtracks that I’ve heard from playing games such as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. It is a dream of mine for my music to be apart a game with a great and compelling storyline like the ones I played as a kid, so that I could then inspire the next person who enjoys video game soundtracks as much as I do.
