Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aundrea Scott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aundrea , appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Growing up on the East Coast, in Philadelphia hairstyling was major in the community. Philadelphia was one of the trending cities of hair and fashion. I was inspired by my Aunt Felicia to become a hairstylist at the age of ten while I worked side by side with her as a shampoo assistant. As the years went by, I tried to get away from the hair industry, not because I disliked it. I felt like I wanted to explore my options. I tried, but couldn’t seem to find anything to give me that joy!
As I became an adult, I found myself taking clients after my 9 to 5 job. As a mother of two children and being released from a major company I knew it was time to pursue my passion. In 2010, I got up the courage to attend Empire Beauty School in the city of Philadelphia and received my cosmetology license the following year. After working in a few local salons it wasn’t long before I became an entrepreneur launching my own business. Aundrea Renee’ Hair Studio was birthed in 2013. I was graced with many clients and opportunities such as bridal parties, stage plays, photo shoots and traveling. In 2016, I was at a place with wanting MORE. I could either stay in the city and make it or take a leap of faith to see what else God had in store for my family and career. So, I decided against all odds to go with the leap of faith and move to Dallas/Fort Worth Texas. EVERYTHING about my move was FAITH!
Aundrea , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Aundrea Renee’ Hair Studio is a hair salon that takes pride not only in hair care but in helping women find their beauty inside and out. If you come to my salon you will find inspiring quotes, warm reception, and most of all you will leave with not only beautiful hair but an encouraging word. My experience with hair care has made me the go-to person for sew-in extensions, hair color, weaves, custom wigs, precision hair cuts as well as natural hair. With the decline in hair care maintenance, I also do private sessions for hair loss and prevention.
What sets me apart from others is that when you come to my salon you do not have to worry about being there for a long period of time; you can expect a one on one experience and my passion is shown by the time, attention and detail of every style for every client.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Honestly speaking, I definitely have my ups and downs. With anything there are both obstacles and challenges; as an entrepreneur, it takes a lot of strength, courage, wisdom, and discipline. Through the ups and downs of daily life, I ALWAYS encourage myself to move forward. Moving to a new state and revamping a business you face the fear of inconsistency with clientele, staying abreast to trends, and making enough revenue to keep the business open. What I have learned is to remember WHO I am, never doubt my strength when I know that I am giving my all and ALWAYS remain firm in where my help comes from. Overall, I can say that I have been favored with surpassing all of those fears each day!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
There are several important factors to building an audience on social the first is consistency. Honestly, there is where I struggle the most, remembering to post inspirational messages, remembering to take pictures of my clients for fresh content.
After that, it is about curating content for the type of audience you, Social media should be viewed as a way to soft-sell your services and products. You want the audience to be interested in the work, then engage with booking and pricing.
It is also about being honest in work, showing the cuts, showing the making of the wigs, if I say my wigs are handmade I should show me in the process of me making a wig.
