We recently connected with Aunah Green and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Aunah, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Right now in the industry there are a lot of remakes of classic films of the past. This makes it appear that Hollywood has theoretically have ran out of fresh ideas and a lot of consumers are getting bored. A lot of new creatives like me have not had the opportunity to break through the industry to shake things up in a new and exciting way.
Aunah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve known I wanted to be in the entertainment industry since I was ten, and I’m almost twenty-three now. I started acting but have now switched to a focus behind the camera with directing, writing, and producing. At this current time, I’ve finished two screenplays for television. One police procedural and one historical anthology that I can’t wait to perfect and share with the world. My work takes pride in being different and relevant to what’s happening in the world. I am most proud of these two works because they are unique pieces of me. They also seek to showcase the underrepresented in a way that has not been done yet.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’ve been in the entertainment business on and off for almost thirteen years, and I’ve had my soul crushed a few times, but I always got back up and decided to try something different. The acting bug hit me early, and I wanted nothing more than to act. And after many years of struggle and little opportunity, I decided it wasn’t for me. I found out I am much better suited for behind the camera as I have an incredible visual eye and a flare for compelling works of fiction. I’ve never been happier creating worlds and new characters that can’t wait to be on screen.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes, I wish I knew about platforms like Canvas-Rebel of course. Also, Coverfly, and Filmfreeway. Through these avenues, I have learned about writing and directing fellowships designed to help underrepresented creatives. I also have learned a lot on YouTube. Film Courage is a fantastic platform on YouTube where industry professionals give free advice on the entertainment industry. I’ve learned trial and error without having to make those mistakes myself.
