We recently connected with Aumatma Simmons and have shared our conversation below.
Aumatma, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
The defining moment in my professional career was the decision to specialize in fertility – this changed everything! BUT, what led to this moment was my then-husband asking if we could start trying for a baby. And, whenever he asked, I would hear my uterus screaming NO!. Eventually I wondered, what was it all about? Was I meant to never have children? Was I married to the wrong person?
It led me down a rabbit hole of self discovery and research. Through the self-discovery, I realized I DO want children, just not with him. Through research, I discovered what I learned in medical school about fertility was incorrect and that there were many myths in the fertility world that were not based on scientific data but rather assumptions. As I realized all of the mis-information, I started sharing with women what I was learning, and they were the reason I chose to eventually say yes to helping women get out of fertility struggles.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Dr. Aumatma, a double board-certified Naturopathic Endocrinologist specializing in fertility medicine. My journey into this field began nearly two decades ago when I noticed a troubling pattern in conventional fertility treatment: an overwhelming focus on aggressive interventions without addressing the underlying causes of infertility.
After completing my medical training, I found myself increasingly frustrated by the “one-size-fits-all” approach that left many couples depleted—emotionally, physically, and financially—without the baby they longed for. I knew there had to be a better way, which led me to pioneer what I now call the Restorative Fertility™ approach.
* My Path to Functional Fertility *
My own path wasn’t straightforward. I initially practiced as a general naturopathic doctor, but kept encountering patients with fertility challenges that weren’t being adequately addressed by conventional reproductive medicine. These were couples who had been told their only options were expensive IVF treatments or to “just keep trying”—with no investigation into why conception wasn’t happening naturally.
This gap in care became impossible to ignore. I immersed myself in advanced study of reproductive endocrinology, functional medicine, and holistic approaches to fertility. What emerged was a comprehensive methodology that identifies and addresses the root causes of fertility challenges rather than simply bypassing them with technology.
* What Sets My Approach Apart *
The Holistic Fertility Institute, which I founded, takes a fundamentally different approach to fertility care:
1. **Root Cause Identification**: Rather than immediately jumping to invasive procedures, we conduct comprehensive testing to uncover exactly what’s blocking fertility for each unique couple.
2. **Whole-Person Treatment**: We address not just reproductive health but also the interconnected systems that affect fertility—immune function, gut health, stress response, and more.
3. **Fertility Takes Two**: Unlike conventional approaches that often focus primarily on the woman, we equally address male fertility factors, which contribute to at least 40% of conception challenges.
4. **Evidence-Based Natural Medicine**: We integrate the best of conventional testing with research-backed natural interventions, creating personalized protocols that work with the body rather than overriding it.
What truly distinguishes our work is our success with cases that conventional medicine has deemed “hopeless.” I’ve helped hundreds of couples conceive naturally after being told IVF was their only option, including women over 40, those with diminished ovarian reserve, recurrent pregnancy loss, and unexplained infertility.
* Beyond Clinical Practice *
My work extends beyond one-on-one patient care. I’ve trained hundreds of doctors in the Restorative Fertility™ methodology, authored the best-selling book “Fertility Secrets,” and host the award-winning podcast “Egg Meets Sperm.” Most recently, I launched Madre Fertility—the world’s first Smart Fertility Analysis app that puts personalized fertility guidance into women’s hands.
I’m particularly proud of our 85% success rate with couples who’ve been told they have little to no chance of natural conception. There’s nothing more rewarding than receiving birth announcements from families who had nearly given up hope.
* The Fertile Systems Approach *
What began as a methodology for fertility has evolved into what I call the “Fertile Systems” approach—a framework that applies equally well to creating abundance in business and life. I now work with high-achieving entrepreneurs to implement these same principles in their companies, helping them create sustainable growth without the burnout that typically accompanies success.
At the core of everything I do is a simple belief: when we identify and remove the blocks to natural function—whether in reproduction, business, or life—we create fertile ground for abundance to flourish without force or depletion.
* What I Want You to Know *
If there’s one thing I want people to understand about my work, it’s this: the body has an innate wisdom and capacity for healing that far exceeds what we’ve been led to believe. Whether you’re struggling with fertility challenges or feeling depleted in your business or life, the solution rarely lies in pushing harder—it comes from identifying what’s blocking your natural capacity for abundance and systematically removing those obstacles.
I believe in creating fertile futures—not just for couples longing for babies, but for anyone seeking to create something meaningful without sacrificing their wellbeing in the process.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The Lesson I Had to Unlearn: Success Doesn’t Require Depletion
I had to unlearn the dangerous belief that achievement requires sacrifice and that pushing through exhaustion was the price of success.
The backstory begins in my early 30s when I was building my fertility practice. Despite helping patients create balance in their lives, I was living the opposite reality. I was seeing 30 patients a day, working 12-hour shifts, skipping meals, and running on empty—physically and emotionally.
The breaking point came one Friday night when I dragged myself home at 10:30 PM after my sixth consecutive 12-hour workday. I hadn’t eaten all day and was completely depleted. My then-husband surprised me with a question: “Babe, can we start trying for a baby?”
My body’s response shocked even me—every cell screamed “NO!” Though I was married and having a child seemed like the logical next step, my body had already decided it wasn’t safe. Not because of him (well, maybe partly!), but because I had pushed myself into survival mode.
That moment became my wake-up call. As a fertility doctor, I was teaching patients about creating safe, nourishing environments for conception while ignoring how my own depletion was affecting my health and future.
This realization led me to apply my Restorative Fertility™ principles to my own life and business. I began implementing what I now call “fertile systems”—approaches that generate abundance without depletion. I restructured my practice to see fewer patients but deliver more comprehensive care. I created team systems that multiplied impact without multiplying effort. I established clear boundaries between work and restoration.
The results were transformative. Not only did my own health improve dramatically, but my business actually grew more rapidly with less effort. Revenue increased as I focused on deeper value rather than higher volume. My team became more engaged as they worked within systems designed for sustainability rather than burnout.
Today, I help high-achieving professionals apply these same principles to their businesses—creating fertile ground for growth without the depletion that typically accompanies success. Whether it’s a fertility clinic, a coaching practice, or a tech startup, the same fundamental truth applies: sustainable success comes from creating fertile systems that nourish rather than deplete.
This lesson completely transformed my understanding of achievement. True success isn’t measured by how much you sacrifice, but by how much you flourish while creating value for others.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Beyond Knowledge: Keys to Success in Optimizing Fertility
Beyond training and knowledge, I believe the most helpful quality for succeeding in fertility medicine is cultivating genuine presence with patients.
This field sits at the intersection of medical science and profound human experience. While technical expertise is essential, what truly transforms patient outcomes is the ability to be fully present—to listen beyond the words, to recognize the unspoken fears, and to hold space for the complex emotions that accompany the fertility journey.
I’ve seen brilliant doctors with extensive knowledge fail to help patients because they couldn’t connect with the human experience behind the lab values. Conversely, I’ve witnessed practitioners with modest technical training achieve remarkable results because they created a safe container for healing.
When a couple walks into my office after years of failed treatments, they’ve typically been through a medical system that reduced them to numbers, protocols, and statistics. What they need most is someone who sees them as whole people with unique stories and circumstances.
This presence manifests in practical ways: truly listening without rushing to solutions, recognizing how stress patterns affect treatment outcomes, understanding the relationship dynamics that influence fertility, and honoring the emotional weight of each decision point.
The fertility journey touches the most vulnerable aspects of human experience—identity, partnership, family legacy, and personal worth. Technical knowledge alone cannot navigate these waters. Success requires emotional intelligence, intuitive listening, and the courage to address the whole person rather than just their reproductive system.
I believe this is why our Restorative Fertility™ approach has succeeded where conventional treatments have failed. We create fertile ground for healing by addressing not just the physical factors but the emotional, relational, and spiritual dimensions that influence fertility—and that requires presence far beyond what medical textbooks can teach.
