Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aujile Riley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Aujile, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents practiced healthy eating habits, but I didn’t realize how much it had an impact on me until recently.
I clearly remember there regularly being a basket of fruit on the table for an easy snacking. 90% of our meals were homecooked. And we ALWAYS ate vegetables with our lunch and dinner.
Although we did enjoy dessert on the weekends, my parents didn’t keep many sugary or processed foods in our house. I grew up thinking that healthy eating was the norm.
Now that I’m older, I realize that most people weren’t raised to have the positive relationship with food that I had. Most people don’t actually know what healthy, balanced eating looks like.
As a Weight Loss Mindset Counselor, one of my responsibilities is to teach others how to repair their relationship with food (and their body) so they can reach and maintain a healthy weight.
Aujile, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a mother, wife, believer, and lover of all things purple.
In 2018, I reached the highest weight of my life, 289 lbs. I desperately needed to make a change so I started prioritizing myself and shifting my attention to the things that helped me look and feel my best. I hired a coach to help me reach my goals. While I was certainly losing weight, I realized that the method that I was being taught (intense exercise and restrictive eating) wouldn’t work for me long-term. I just couldn’t seem to stay consistent. I needed a plan to lose weight and KEEP IT OFF, which wasn’t something that my coach was well versed in. After severing ties with my coach, I set out on a mission to find a practical way to lose weight for good that didn’t require extreme workouts or dieting restrictions. I went on to lose over 100 lbs and maintain that loss for 4+ years. That’s how Eat Clean-ish was born.
Eat Clean-ish provides mindset and weight loss coaching services and self-help resources for people looking for a simple, sustainable way to lose weight. Clients can opt for virtual or in-person coaching in small groups or 1:1.
I help individuals who have been struggling to lose weight for a while and are ready for a new, more balanced approach to weight loss. While working with me, clients get the strategy, skills, and mindset they need to lose weight for good without extremes. Unlike most coaches in the weight loss space, my method focuses primarily on balanced, mindful nutrition and mindset development.
I’m most proud of the women who have entrusted me to be their coach and guide them along their weight loss journeys. Without them, my business wouldn’t exist.
The main thing that I want people to know is that you don’t not have to be perfect to be successful. This journey is about progress, NOT perfection.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely not! Although I didn’t initially set out to be an entrepreneur, I can honestly say that I was made to do exactly what I’m doing. I have a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology and have worked in the mental health field for more than 10 years so I have the knowledge base and career experience. I also have the personal experience of having lost 100+ lbs and maintained it for years. When you combine the 2, it makes sense for me to be a Weight Loss Mindset counselor. Plus, I love it!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Podcasts have literally changed my life (and saved my business)! I love listening to podcasts that share insight on business from a REAL point of view. My current favorites are “Nicky & Moose”, “Authentic As F*ck”, and “Speak Your Way To Cash”.
