We were lucky to catch up with Augustus T Scretchen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Augustus T thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
It may sound trite, but I have always been passionate about acting. Growing up, I would often create characters and perform improvisational acts for my family, driven by a strong desire to entertain. In middle school, I joined the drama club and participated in a play, which I thoroughly enjoyed. However, after being ridiculed by my friends, I regrettably quit, as I began to perceive acting as “uncool”. Consequently, I shifted my focus towards sports and some modeling, eventually discovering my passion for music. I became a musician and was fortunate to have my step father’s support in setting up a home studio. I dedicated myself to music production, creating my own videos, and gaining recognition within the industry. Although I signed with a major label, it did not work out. I pursued higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree in music production. However, a bunch of wasted years later lol, I realized that music was not my true calling. Acting had always been my dream. So, I overcame my fear of being judged and immersed myself in acting classes, self-submitting, and eventually landing a supporting lead role in a feature film. And so, my journey began.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I hail from upstate New York. In 2022, I got married, and my wife became pregnant a year later. We relocated to Houston due to a career opportunity I secured, and we sought to escape the chaos. I had aspirations to start my acting career in 2019, which I had put on hold for a few years. Upon arriving in Houston, I deemed it the ideal time to pursue acting again. I conducted extensive research on where to start via YouTube University. I discovered an exceptional acting coach and immersed myself in the craft. I was overwhelmed with joy and the reminiscence of my passion for acting. I got some headshots to start with, recognizing the need for a reel, I began submitting myself for roles and, through my research, learned that I could create opportunities for myself. I started analyzing scripts, which led me to write my own scripts. Being on set and viewing things creatively inspired me to venture behind the camera. I initiated the production of my own short films with an IPhone and worked my way, casting fellow classmates who required opportunities. I take pleasure in assisting others in achieving success. I believe in sharing knowledge and opportunities, and I’ve submitted fellow actors for consideration for roles I’ve been cast in or declined. I’ve acquired all the necessary equipment to produce my own films and started a production company Gifted Dreams Production, which motivates me to continually learn and improve. I take immense pride in the risks I take and the sacrifices I make to achieve my objectives. I am not afraid of failure and rejection. I would describe my brand as wholesome, charismatic, creative, and a devoted family man with a triple threat persona. Some what of a heart throb lol

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Embrace your authenticity and don’t let fear of judgment hold you back. Believe in yourself and your dreams, and you’ll inspire others to do the same. Your uniqueness is your strength. People are going to judge you no matter what you do, trust that people will be people.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yeah, to change the narrative from where I come from, create opportunities for my family, and be the hero in my children’s eyes, just doing what I love without feeling like it’s a 9-to-5.
