Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Audrina Henry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Audrina, thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Being “happier” is an understatement as a business owner, I feel like having a permanent adrenaline is what makes me be a business owner. The constant ups and downs, the major campaigns, to the sold out sales somehow you will get an adrenaline from any of those cause you never know what to expect. As someone who had two regular jobs during the beginning and during being a business owner it’s really not much of a difference but you get little pay while the big boss gets the big coins. That never sat right with me, however it is a safety net just in case something happens. In 2020 while working my second job as a retail in Walmart I remember talking to my coworker Martha she’s an elder lady who always told me her crazy stories when she was younger, always had a soft spot for me vice versa. I told Martha that me working here was just temporary due to the pandemic and slowing down my business like crazy I showed her how much i made monthly and she told me “you just need to be here till spring and your business will pick back up. Everybody just scared right now, you see they taking nothing but toilet paper.” So listening to her I waited till spring saved my money and flipped it by buying my inventory and relaunching my hair company which resulted to selling out within 2 hours and having a 25k profit.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Audrina Asia Henry a 24 year old Ethiopian – African American woman from the Central Valley of Fresno California that moved back and forth to Kansas City Missouri and the young age of 6. Being the only girl out of six brothers and I really didn’t know much about my dad besides visiting him once or twice a month in prison back in California but once he told my mom to move to Kansas City that’s when I found out not only my dad had his own car wash he is also a twin *laughs* so I always knew my dad was always about his money he always hustled to get what he wanted. That what made me become my own boss. It runs in the family. I always wanted to break generational barriers by graduating college and becoming the first millionaire of my family. Not having the support with me going to college it was a challenge and it resulted to me dropping out for a semester and get a apartment back home in Kansas City so I can figure out if I wanted to finish college or just work a regular job. One night I just wanted to start my own hair business and I got out of bed made my business plan, made my instagram account, and seven years later it’s now a seven figure business.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
In 2020 when the pandemic happened. Everybody was in the house either making TikToks, scamming ppp loans, or doing home workouts. But with me and a few of my homegirls thought to make an OF account and see what goes from there *laughs* when I first announced that I made one and to click the link below that first week I accumulated the estimate my first $5k at the age of 19. It was quicker than any job or business alone so I had kept it as a side hustle till I made $15k so I can flip it two different ways. One way I did was invest into stocks and earning six figures. Second way I did was invest into marketing for my hair company and networking with club owners in Miami.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Well I always had a big audience in my eyes due to my personality, helpful tips on fitness and entrepreneurship, and extremely blunt attitude. Ever since I started doing my millionaire vlogs one of them went viral hitting a quarter million views which had me gain over 10000+ followers and my favorite rapper reached out to me congratulating me on becoming a millionaire. Even though I had some trolls and haters try to be negative but I took it as all engagement is good engagement. Now I see so many other content creators do millionaire vlogs and I’m extremely flattered by it. All I can say is be you and be authentic cause that’s what your real audience care about. You may have the nice corvette and a big following but is your content really authentic?
