We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Audrey Withers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Audrey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
All three of us were trying to come up with an idea we were passionate about, we all had the problem of affordable jewelry tarnishing. We couldn’t stand the fact that you had to spent $50 plus dollars on decent quality bracelets that wouldn’t turn within the first week. So we came up with 119 jewelry, tarnishing resistant and affordable jewelry.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are a student owned business. All 3 of us are in high school. We started this business through the EIC and have gone to a number of markets including the Main-street Festival. We care about the integrity of our product and want our jewelry to be accessible to all. As a team we are constantly looking at what we can change to continue to better and give our customers the highest quality at the lowest price!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of finding new clients is in-person selling at markets. Meeting people face to face is the best way to make connections and even create friendships. At all the markets we go to we’ve met new people, customers, and gotten great advice. Because we are all in high school we love hearing input from those who have been in business for much longer than us. Even just saying hello to someone can create a life-long connection you never thought to make.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
We currently use Shopify, we really like Shopify because of how customizable and easy it is to use. It also gives constant updates on sales, profile clicks, and other offers. It also does all the book keeping for us.
