Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Audrey Sargus & Mia Karakostas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Audrey Sargus & Mia Karakostas thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
As the Kent Student Education Association we strive to build up Kent States education students who plan on becoming educators. We offer professional development which is our first step to changing what is happening in the education system. Students need to have all their needs met to reach success. Lessons need to be tailored to them so they can have a personal connection to their classes. Students want to go to school, they want to learn, and teachers offer that. A common hardship in schools is unsupportive administration. As an educator having that creativity and passion is what can drive you and if it is shut down that can lead to teachers feeling burnt out and not being able to help students to the best of their ability.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
KSEA is a pre-professional organization comprised of undergraduate and graduate students preparing for careers in the field of education. As a member, we provide you with endless experiences and opportunities in the areas of professional development, networking, and community service. We are affiliated with the National Education Association as well as the Ohio Education Association. There are many guest speakers that discuss a variety of topics related to issues in education at our meetings and events. We received the National Education Association Local Excellence Award.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
We aim to listen and accommodate our team the best we can. We make sure they are skilled and trained in their positions before we start off the school year so they feel confident in there role. It is all a team effort and our group knows this and aims to contribute. We hype up our team when we have a lot on our plate, they accomplish something great, we fundraised, even seeing them connect with our members and participate is something we aim to celebrate. We want our board of directors to leave being the best of the best and able to put this on a resume so that is a big push.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
We send out emails after each meeting and gathering to make sure all are up to date. We keep in touch with anyone interested or signed up not just those who attend a meeting. We post about three times a week to keep members updates and connected. It helps us remember too when we see it all over social media! We also encourage our board of directors to repost stories and share dms to people they think would enjoy a meeting. We push emails to advisors and professors when we get into our KSEA Fall Conference.
