We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Audjenea Carmicheal . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Audjenea below.
Hi Audjenea, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is one of those things that’s in the eyes of the beholder. Like the saying “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. So when I think about what it takes to be successful there are commonalities I find in others as it relates to myself like creating a routine, reading, always being a student etc. The most important ways to success for me were Discipline, Dedication, and Passion. The Wax Beast is successful because my passion that I put behind every service offered. I’ve had to practice disciplined for years because at one point I was lazy and I tend to not finish things I start. I now celebrate all wins big and small because I know that if I don’t I can become complacent but seeing different levels of success in my life and business pushes me towards new heights.

Audjenea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Audjenea Carmicheal owner of JB Esthetics Suites and The Wax Beast. As a wax specialist I specialize in intimate skin care and hair removal. I like to say that I tend to fall into positions in my life. When I started my aesthetics journey six years ago I had no idea or even a clue that it would lead to waxing, or being a Licensed Esthetician and business owner. I started out by simply being a kitchen chemist. I basically sat at home and you know tried out different formulas to make skin care products facial scrubs body scrubs facial masks anything that I could think of pretty much. That lead me into aesthetician school and that was the turn of my life. That’s how JB aesthetics was formed and from that point I was doing skincare and facials from home then I ended up getting a Suite him and being that grew into me having multiple suites and then me renting out suites to other aestheticians And people in the beauty industry. As a waxer I knew and understood that skin care doesn’t stop with the face so what I bring to the WaxBeast which is my new baby is a new perspective on taking care of our Intimate areas. Hair removal is great but we have to take it a step further. When it comes down to specializing in intimate skin care I work on hyperpigmentation, skin texture, intimate bleaching, hydration and overall just having healthy skin down there. The Wax Beast offers services for hair removal as well as Teeth Whitening, Facials, and Body Treatments. One of the most important things that I provide as the wax beast to my clients is an extended relationship. I’m already dealing with women and men who have insecurities about their skin and dealing with different skin conditions so building a relationship with my clients that goes beyond service provider and clientele is what boosts the success of my business and it makes people appreciate and trust me a little bit more then the next person. It’s like hanging out with one of your home girls and telling her everything that you want to tell the therapist.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for me when it comes down to building my clientele has always been being myself. I am being myself can be the most brightest explanation possible but at the end of the day that’s literally what has kept my clientele so loyal and so plentiful. When I started my business I tried everything I have I’ve had mentors, and I’ve had three business coaches all of which were great and I have learned A lot about business I’ve learned a lot about myself and I’ve also learned about my learning styles and what I need and what my clients need from me. So what I do is I learn from other people they say that you know if you want to be a millionaire you need to learn from millionaires so I’ll take what I learn and sometimes I have to tweak things to make it for me and come from me so that my clients perceive it in a better light so that my future clients and future tribe know who I am and they know that before coming in the door what they’re going to get. Social media has been my biggest platform to gain clientele because they’re able to see me on a different level. People who haven’t heard of me or who haven’t seen The Wax Beast before are able to get a glimpse into my personality this type of services that I provide and what I’ve done for others so that helps and goes along with literally being myself gets me my clients.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I knew I had to change how I operated my business and split a JB Esthetics and the wax beast into two separate entities when it literally became hectic. And I’m talking about hectic on all ends my financials were mixed in intertwined ,difficulties with my client base and from suite renters their client base. There really just had to be a line drawn in the sand for what was what. So what I first did was go ahead and separate and created The Wax Beast and that literally takes everything that is just my waxing business my aesthetic business and then the JB Esthetics which is my very first baby goes into aesthetics as a whole meaning other beauty services and other beauty brands are able to come in and do what it is that they love to do under that umbrella. Separating the brands honestly has been the best decision for me it’s freed up a lot of my time when it comes down to my financials and my day-to-day operations. I take a look at my operations every month and I’m now able to see a clearer picture of what one side of the business is bringing in versus the other side of the business and how I can grow each business separately and together
