We recently connected with Aubrey Triplett and have shared our conversation below.
Aubrey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
Starting my own tattoo studio felt like the natural next step in my journey as an artist. After working in a shop for a couple of years, I had the opportunity to grow, learn, and really start understanding the kind of work I was most passionate about. I found myself constantly drawn to delicate, detail-heavy pieces, especially floral work. There’s a softness and quiet strength in those designs that I just connect with on a personal level.
The idea of having my own space came from wanting more freedom to create an environment that matched the vibe of my art. I wanted a studio that felt peaceful and intentional, where clients could relax and feel safe getting something meaningful tattooed on them. Once I decided to go for it, I had to figure out everything from setting up my space to learning how to run a business and manage the behind-the-scenes responsibilities.
The process wasn’t perfect. There were challenges, second guesses, and moments where I had to remind myself why I started. But every time I got to sit down and tattoo something soft and intricate, whether it was a dainty floral or a fine-line script, I felt grounded again.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change much. The journey taught me how to trust myself and stay true to my vision. To anyone thinking about starting their own practice—just do it. You don’t need everything figured out. Trust your art, trust your pace, and build something that feels like you.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I specialize in delicate, feminine, and fine line tattoos. My work is all about softness, intentionality, and detail. I strive to create more than just beautiful tattoos—I aim to provide a calming, welcoming space where people can fully relax and feel taken care of from the moment they walk in. Whether it’s someone’s first tattoo or their tenth, my goal is to make the entire experience feel personal, peaceful, and rooted in trust.
I’ve always loved tattoos. I was fascinated by them from a young age, but for a long time, I didn’t believe I was “good enough” to pursue art professionally. It felt out of reach. That changed when my parents surprised me with a tattoo machine for my birthday. That gift changed everything. I started practicing, studying, and completely immersing myself in the craft. I applied for apprenticeships multiple times, but for one reason or another, none of them worked out. So I kept going—self-taught, determined, and in love with the process.
Eventually things started to click. My style evolved, my client base grew, and I carved out a lane that felt true to who I am. I focused in on the types of pieces that brought me joy: floral designs, soft lines, and meaningful, minimalistic tattoos that speak volumes through subtlety.
One of the things I’m most proud of is having the opportunity to tattoo people I genuinely admire. Individuals who are making an impact in their communities, creatives I look up to, and people whose energy inspires me. It’s a huge honor every time someone chooses me to bring their vision to life.
What I want people to know about me and my studio is that this isn’t just a tattoo appointment. It’s an experience. I’ve created a space that’s chill, inclusive, and relaxing. I’m intentional about every detail, from the energy in the room to the placement of the stencil. My work may be light and delicate, but the meaning behind it is heavy with love and care.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Getting into tattooing professionally was a wild ride, one that started at rock bottom. I had just left a toxic relationship and found myself with nothing. No job, no stability, and honestly, no clear path forward. I hadn’t worked in over a year, and I knew deep down I didn’t want to go back to the cycle of clocking into a 9 to 5 that drained me. What I did have was my art, and I had been working on it consistently—drawing, studying, soaking up everything I could from the tattoo artists around me.
I finally decided to take the leap, even though everything around me said it wasn’t the “safe” choice. My grandmother saw that fire in me. She believed in me when I barely had the strength to believe in myself. She used what she could to buy me the most basic tattooing supplies. I had just enough money, literally down to the dollar, to rent a suite for one week. One week to make it work. I knew I had to figure it out fast because my grandma had sacrificed so much to help get me started.
So I made a flyer and started offering simple tattoos through social media. And it worked. People came. One client turned into two, and it just kept going. That momentum never stopped.
That week was the turning point of my life. It was proof that I could rebuild from nothing. It showed me that resilience isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about showing up anyway, trusting yourself, and finding a way forward no matter what.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Absolutely. I wouldn’t change a thing. My passion for tattooing runs deep—it’s more than just a job to me. Tattooing feels spiritual. It doesn’t feel like work. It’s a form of release, a way for me to express myself while also creating something meaningful for someone else.
Every session is a moment of connection. I get to share space with people, hear their stories, and help them bring their vision to life. That connection is something I don’t take lightly. It fills me up in a way nothing else ever has. So yes, I’d choose this path again in a heartbeat. It feels like purpose.
