We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aubreigh Adams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Aubreigh, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
When I started Aromatic Adventures With Aubreigh, I didn’t just want to make candles—I wanted to create something that could help others feel safe, calm, and comforted, just like I need sometimes. As a person with autism, I’ve experienced how certain sights, sounds, and smells can be overwhelming or soothing. I know what it’s like to feel anxious or overstimulated, and I’ve learned that the right environment can make a huge difference.
My journey wasn’t always easy. There were times I felt misunderstood or like I didn’t quite fit in, especially when it came to sensory experiences. But instead of letting that hold me back, I decided to turn my experiences into something positive. I started experimenting with scents and creating candles that could evoke feelings of calm, happiness, and nostalgia. I wanted to share that feeling with others—people who might also need a little extra comfort or support in their daily lives.
For me, this isn’t just about making pretty candles. It’s about representing neurodiversity and showing that everyone’s sensory needs are valid. I hope that my candles can be a tool for self-care, a way for people to explore what makes them feel safe and happy. My mission is meaningful because it’s rooted in my own life and the wish to help others feel seen, understood, and included.
When I think about the future, I want to keep growing and creating products that serve my community. I dream of opening a storefront someday where I can sell my candles and also offer workshops for other teens and young adults with disabilities. I want to give them opportunities to learn skills, express their creativity, and build confidence. That’s why my mission matters so much—because I believe everyone deserves to have a voice, a place, and a chance to shine.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Aubreigh Adams, and I started my own candle business called Aromatic Adventures With Aubreigh when I turned 14, which was December 2024. I’ve always loved scents and making things that feel calming and happy. Being autistic, I know how sometimes the world can feel a little overwhelming, and I wanted to help others feel safe and relaxed too.
I got into making candles because I love how scents can change how you feel. When I was figuring out what I wanted to do, I realized I could make candles that are not only pretty but also help people feel better. So, I started creating my own special blends inspired by nature and adventure—things that make you smile or help you chill out.
I hand-pour eco-friendly, 100 %. natural soy candles with unique fragrances. My goal is to create scents that help with relaxation, happiness, and nostalgia. I also love working with people to make personalized candles that match what they like or need. My candles are for anyone who wants a calming, nice-smelling space that feels safe and cozy.
Besides selling online, I also sell my candles at vendor events and farmers markets. It’s a really cool way for me to meet new people and talk about my journey with autism. I get to share my story and hear others’ stories too. Most people are really accepting, and many have shared personal stories with me about how they deal with sensory stuff or just want something that makes them feel good. I love hearing their stories and connecting with others through my candles.
What makes my candles different is that I make them myself, with love and care. I understand what it’s like to be sensory-sensitive because I experience it every day. So, I make sure my candles are perfect for helping people relax and feel good. I also care a lot about the environment, so I use eco-friendly stuff and recyclable packaging.
I’m really proud to be a representative of the neurodivergent community. I want to show everyone that all things are possible, no matter what challenges you face. I hope my story inspires other young people with disabilities to believe in themselves and follow their dreams.
I’m really proud that I turned my passion into a business that helps others. It feels really good to know that my candles can make someone’s day better. I’m also proud of building a community where everyone feels included and proud of who they are.
I want everyone to know that my work is all about love, kindness, and helping others feel calm and happy. Whether you want a nice candle, a special scent, or just want to support a young person trying to do something grand, I’d love for you to join me on this aromatic adventure!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Resilience, for me, has been all about improving my communication skills, especially because of my autism. At first, it was a real struggle. I’d either talk way too much, get bogged down in details, or get so anxious that I’d find it hard to speak at all, especially with new people. It was a major hurdle.
But I knew I couldn’t just stop there. I decided to make practice a part of my business. Every time I set up my booth at a market, I would intentionally talk to different vendors and customers. Each conversation was a chance to get better at explaining my products and sharing my story in a clear way. It really helped me become more confident. Now, I feel comfortable enough to do social media videos where I advertise my candles and talk about my journey, which is something I never thought I’d do.
I’m also the youngest member of my local city’s Chamber of Commerce, and that’s been a huge part of this journey. Being in meetings with experienced business owners gives me a chance to see how they communicate and operate. I’ve learned so much just by observing and listening. What’s been most surprising is the support I’ve received. Most people are incredibly patient, and their encouragement has helped me feel less anxious. Even when I don’t say things perfectly, they still cheer me on. It has taught me that it’s okay to make mistakes and that people genuinely want to hear what I have to say.
This whole process has significantly built my resilience. I want to show others that even if something is difficult at first, with practice and support, you can make real progress!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Most people are really surprised when they see a teen running a business at markets and events. They usually don’t expect someone my age, especially with autism, to be doing something like this. I think what helped me the most is being open about my journey and talking about neurodiversity. I want people to know that having autism doesn’t stop me from doing things.
I also created the Spectrum Collection—a line of candles that represent different parts of neurodiversity. Each candle is special and shows that everyone’s different in their own way, but that’s what makes us strong. When people see my collection, they start asking questions and having conversations about neurodiversity. That really helps me connect with customers and show them that it’s okay to be different.
Being honest about my story and sharing my experiences makes people see me as more than just a teen with autism. They see someone who’s determined, creative, and proud of who I am. I think that’s what makes people trust me and want to support my work.
Most importantly, I try to be kind and real with everyone. That’s how I’ve built a community where people believe in me and support my dreams. It feels really good to know I can inspire others and help spread awareness about neurodiversity. Plus, my candles truly light up the senses-they smell really great!
