We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Atla Abercrombie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Atla below.
Atla, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I’m new to it all. It’s not the easiest to be creative and find new ways to implement new ideas. I enjoy writing, cooking, and taking acting classes. And I just want to be the best I can be. Learning the craft is just the first step. But continuing it is the biggest risk you can take. It’s better to fail and try than not try at all.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
With my writing, I started way back in high school and it hasn’t been the smoothiest. There’s a book I started when I was 15 and still haven’t finished it. But I like to think when it’s done then that entire time of working on it was worth it. I don’t think I particularly have much discipline in my work or myself. I just find myself going whenever I can. Some people like to push themselves to be the best but for myself, I just try to take it easy, and when I get an idea for something I just take it from there and see where it goes. I will never claim to be the most creative, artistic, best cooking, or the best acting. I can only be who I am. For potential clients, followers, or fans I would just want them to know that you can only be you and do the best that you can. I am me and wouldn’t change a thing.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I believe the most rewarding aspect of being creative is the outcome. Sometimes in my craft, I surprise myself with what I can do. Especially in my writing. I think my writing is where I succeed the most. It feels refreshing to let everything and anything out onto paper. You feel the safest at least for myself when I put it into words. Some are scared to express themselves physically and that’s okay. It’s why I write. Maybe someone out there can find their voice within the words that I write and that too is rewarding to me.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish there were more resources on how you can get started on your career. Like for examples how can I get my book to publish or how can I audition for the favorite tv show I like. It seems like nowadays that the resources that are provided are the ones that always wants to charged you loads of money. I just want simple finds that can set me on my way without breaking my bank.
