We were lucky to catch up with Athxna  recently and have shared our conversation below.

Athxna, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?

I think every move in the music industry that I have taken has had some form of risk. And I’m proud of that, high risk high reward is so real.. from signing a management deal that actually ended up not working out, to playing shows I’m uncertain of and then they turn out really well, to working with new PR teams, to signing a sync deal that I recently signed. It’s all super risky but worth the risk at the end of the day because without that risk, we’re not gonna see any progress and I’m really excited to say that I’ve seen a lot of progress within the last year specifically when I’ve been taking more risks in my career

Athena, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

so I’ve been a musician since I was five. I’m classically trained on the piano, my grandmother and great grandmother were both concert pianist and my grandmother always really supported my music career. I wish she was around to see all the wonderful things that I’ve been doing and accomplishing, she would have been so proud. Ive always known that I wanted to do music and I’m so happy that I can live the life that I’ve always dreamt of,

I went to school for music industry and business at Loyola in New Orleans, that’s where I met my mentor John Snyder, and where I made a lot of connections with the industry. I wanted to get as much knowledge about the industry as possible before starting my own music career and I’m very grateful that I did that. New Orleans is also just a beautiful place and the culture and music is so amazing there.

i find my music is a really good blend of classic blues and modern pop/R&B, I like to say my elevator pitch is if Lana Del Rey and Ella Fitzgerald had a baby it would be me. I feel like that’s a really high compliment, but I promise if you hear my music, you’ll get that vibe right off the bat. I want to become a plus size icon within the music industry and show that a plus size person can be sexy. Can be elegant. Can be talented. Can be more than just a fat person. They put a lot of labels on fat women and most of the time you won’t see the label. “talented.”

I am so proud that I am learning my true self and finding my confidence through my music. I’m so grateful that I’ve already been able to connect with a lot of people who want to feel their confidence but have a hard time because they’ve never had a musician to really relate to and I’m so excited that I can be that person for them. That means the world to me. I wish I had someone like me to listen to when I was growing up.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

social media is so tough, let me start with that haha, It really is a time and consistency game. I’ve been working on my following for two years and I’m sitting at 27,600 on TikTok and almost 11 K on Instagram and I’m super proud of those numbers. being consistent, authentic, and on brand are the three things I really think make a difference and can be the hardest things for a lot of artist and people to accomplish whenever they’re trying to build their social media.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

there’s nothing else in this world that I would rather or could do with my life. This is my reason for existing, my passion and my driving force. I don’t know who I would be or what I would be doing without music and I’m so grateful I get to share that with the world. One of the most rewarding things is honestly connecting with people and sharing with people. When someone falls in love with the music and falls in love with you as a person, there’s no better connection.
