We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Atari Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Atari, thanks for joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I have been able to make a full time living from my creative work. I was able to do this by seeing my creative work as a product, researching my field, consistency & not relying on others. From day one I have been very stern on these things, from sending out 500-800 emails a day, to traveling 10 hours out of the day for an interview to go right back home afterwards. The key is wanting to go and get it for yourself without any outside motivation, just your own.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is AtariJones & I am an entrepreneurial artist & marketer; As a entrepreneurial artist I create music & am a social media Influencer, working with different brands and companies while having a platform that not only provides services to help these brands, small businesses and companies, but also other Independent artists wanting to learn and grow. How I started with this Industry is from the passion I got from making music and not wanting to have a boss. I wanted to make a living from my own creations and thoughts while being able to make my own schedule. The products given to customers would be my music, the services I help others with are marketing, digital and social media to help their brand growth. Within the marketing I show clients how to get billboards for themselves to display their brand worldwide & help with social media verification tips to get their accounts via social media verified. I am most proud of being able to stay Independent. A lot of people think this is impossible, but nothing is really impossible. It is a lot of work, but what people don’t realize is that everything is a lot of work. The main thing I want people to know about my work is that it’s authentic, original and reliable.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I utilized twitter more in its earlier stages for marketing, I also wish I had known it was easier to get billboards put up around the world, but they say everything happens at the right time.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn dealt with social media. People will always say you should have more people following you than your following, but how can you really network only following certain people? For this reason I follow tons of people and never worry about my following ratio.
