We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Asuquo Eton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Asuquo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Honestly, when I was interested in videography and photography doing a few travel videos/vlogging, I didn’t have much knowledge in those fields. I literally was going with the passion and love for it (just mainly trial and error).
It was like six years ago I sat down and asked myself “what I really wanted to do”, I spoke with a friend about going to a film school to further develop my skill and knowledge and then he asked me how much it was going to cost for the two-year programme and I told him it was going to be about $12,000. He looked at me and then asked, “do you have a laptop and internet”, I said he said to me and he said why wise money when you have the tools to get it for free by simply going to YouTube University where I could get all the information I wanted to expand my knowledge.
I took his advice and like they say, “the rest is history”. Six years later I have been able to grow my skill and knowledge and turn my love and passion for video and photos into a full-time business.
Asuquo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Asuquo Eton, a videographer, photographer, and video editor. I am from Nigeria but am now based in the United States.
I am the founder and business owner of Asuquo Travels Productions which is a brand that focuses primarily on content creation. I am into the art of videography, video editing and photography. I always put in my best in all my shoots, whether it be videos or photos. I go over and above for my clients and in the end put a smile and satisfaction on their faces. Ensuring my work and word are my bond.
I specialise mostly in weddings, events, portraits, commercials, music videos, etc.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The two main goals for me were one, to be self-independent/employed (which I thankfully was able to do in March of 2022 by leaving my 9 to 5 bank job) and two, to grow my business to where I can be able to employ others and build my own location rental business (which is still a vision in motion).
Hopefully, soon goal number two will be a reality, like they always say, it’s not a race but a marathon.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I will say what helped me build a solid reputation in my market is always the fact that I give 100% to my clients’ jobs and every time deliver their work on schedule and of the highest quality possible.
It’s all about loyalty and trust.
