We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Astro Blackstock a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Astro, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I grew up cosplaying and learned over time, with the help of youtude and lots of trial and error I figured it out! I really don’t think I could of learned it faster, I learned at my own pace that was perfect for me, but knowing what I know now, I would stop caring what others say. My talent and skill speaks for it’s self!

Astro, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hiya! My name is astro, I’m 19, and an award winning cosplayer with over 30 titles under my belt. I started at age 10 going to cons and learning about cosplay then jumped head first into the craft! I make costumes and wigs based off commission!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Honestly, the people! Going to conventions and seeing all the people light up at my costumes is always rewarding. I’ve made so many life long friends this way and honestly I cant/won’t stop.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Youtube is a great recourse. As well as other cosplayers. Seeing what everyone else is doing and putting your own spin on it is always amazing! It always gets me creative!
