We were lucky to catch up with ASTRO recently and have shared our conversation below.
ASTRO, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Four years ago I created “Public Enemy”. This collection stemmed from being able to think for yourself and judge for yourself, “Self enlightenment creates a Public Enemy”. -Astro
I am a fashion designer but it’s always been deeper than the clothes. With this mindset I’ve become my own opponent. Public Enemy has birthed multiple beautiful projects, including Solitary Enemy. A Public Enemy is enlightened by their own acquired knowledge. With this information there are two choices, apply this to the world and watch it burn or apply it to one’s self and watch your world burn. There is love in both sparks but only pain in one, from this pain the product is becoming your own Solitary Enemy. The most meaningful collection to come from this “Public Enemy” project is “Public Enemy Exile”. The Exile is the most important collection because I’m building my foundation now, I’ve been capitalizing off of my pain and it feels as if I’m building on sand. “I believe a star is most beautiful as it falls. In my search for character development I only found the consequences of my actions. I’ve loaded each bullet with blood on my hands. In my fall from greats there’s fresh air. I’ve found I’m not at peace with peace. “SELF ENLIGHTENMENT CREATES A PUBLIC ENEMY” This is PUBLIC ENEMY EXILE, I am now enlightened, dim the lights.“ -Astro
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Blessings family, the namez Astro. I am a fashion designer that creates one of one pieces that tell an introspective story of my walk with God. Every piece is hand painted and stitched by me, I don’t believe that I have a style, only ideas. I say this because I execute every idea that comes to mind good or bad. I challenge the mind to think and judge for ones self with these pieces created. This is the story of Anarchist Saints. This is deeper than some clothes.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Very simple, create. The only goal I have is to simply create. Through this I inspire, and tell the story of the Anarchist Saints, also force people to think and judge for themselves. In my past I’ve set goals that I’d thought I’d be happy when I achieved. Not one of them ever did. I told myself when I got fashion shows I’d be happy. Today I’m blessed enough to say I’ve had countless shows in multiple states and I’m not happy. I told myself when I sold out collections I’d be happy. Learned money wouldn’t satisfy me. Many other past goals fell in that same line, but when I create something from nothing, that feeling is unmatched, six years and from the first piece to my last it has never changed. I love to create and this is why it’s my only goal because I know I will be fulfilled when I can finally say, “this piece is finished”. Which can also lead down a rabbit hole because is art ever finished?
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of my craft is witnessing someone truly connect with my art. As I’ve stated in our last Voyage conversation in 2022, “every human on earth is an artist, the only thing that makes us diverse from each other is what and how we choose to create.” Whether we accept it or not our actions are the consequence of our emotions and all art is, is emotion. So when I see people truly connecting with my emotions, my collections, my pieces it’s truly a blessing.
