We were lucky to catch up with Asten Rey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Asten, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
If I could turn back the hands of time, I would definitely start sooner. I began slowly but also privately because I wanted to improve over time and give myself time to prepare for what I thought I’d need to know. My career was basically nonexistent because I was pursing other avenues, so it could be considered a hobby to more people. I think if I had started sooner it would’ve been beneficial as in opportunities, growth, experiences, as well as being more creative in where I am at this point. I would’ve put forth a bigger effort and tried to eliminate second guessing. We try to put rules and guidelines on being creative and what things are suppose to be and that can sometimes delay us. We have to start somewhere and the sooner the better.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a music producer primarily in the hip-hop/rap genre. I’ve always been a visual artists and that form of art merged and flowed over into the musically form. Myself like tons of other people have some tie or involvement with music early in life and that’s also where gain an interest for creating music. I’ve worked with artists to produce music for them, and I’ve had some experience with audio engineering. I feel that my versatility is what sets me apart from others. I’m able to get involved in different roles and in different areas. I’m proud to be able to say I’ve building myself up in creating my brand. The table wasn’t set for me so everything I have going and in the making, I made happen. My work speaks for itself, and I feel their is a uniqueness about it. I’m also proud that people reach out to me because of their interest in my work.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My social media journey is one of the slower ones. I started over completely and I’m now beginning to put efforts into to rebuilding. Social media platforms are always changing how they operate. In the past things few more simple but now everything is moving at a fast pace. I will say consistency is big part as well as being prepared. It’s a lot of work that goes into gaining on social media. Create a schedule, always interact or respond, and have content ready in advance.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
One thing in my opinion is to be open and vocal. If you like something let others now, make them aware. A lot of people hear support and automatically think there’s a cost associated. Support is and can be 100% free. Word of mouth is an effective way to support and promote anything.
