We were lucky to catch up with Asiah Gregory recently and have shared our conversation below.
Asiah, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
As a child, I was a bit tomboy mixed with a little girly. So it was obvious, for me, to showcase my childhood style into my brand. Crocheting-which started as a hobby- became my business. Considering I wanted to expand, I added street-wear. Therefore my brand image is a little soft with an edge. So what better name to give it other than Brickxlace.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
After graduating from Georgia State University’s textile program, I gained a love for crochet. My first pieces were beanies. Later I began creating crochet crop tops and swimwear. And because my swimwear was selling so well, I decided to get my LLC, thus leading to my brand BRICKXLACE. With the help of my friends as models and my mother as my photographer, I was able to showcase my first collection on social media. Currently, my collection includes dresses, jumpers, men’s wear and so much more!
Much of my collection is customized at my clients’ request. I like to make my customer’s visions and turn them into reality. It’s just a fun way for them to express themselves and for me to get really creative. I’m what you call a visual learner (artist). I do not write down nor sketch any of my creative ideas. My customers usually tell me what they want or looking for and I just start crocheting a piece.
It’s crazy because seeing the growth in my design and craftsmanship is truly a proud moment. I’ve become more creative in my work and slowly developed my signature style. I’m self-taught and definitely take pride in every one of my designs. I welcome all body types and genders. I want my customers to step out of their comfort zones and choose to be unique. And I’m here to help them with that.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe word-of-mouth and social media definitely helped with my success today. However, I will have to say that going above and beyond helping my customers achieve their looks and making them look good made a big impact. I’m consistent and I always act with integrity. Integrity is the foundation of everything I do, especially in the world of business.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
At the beginning of my journey, things were overwhelming, stressful, and discouraging. I would temporarily take month-long breaks. However, I was able to bounce back and managed to stay focused and in control. Now I can say that I’m confident of my success despite any setbacks I’ve experienced. I’ve taken quite a few risks and understand that failure is just another step toward success. My journey included taking on more responsibilities and adjusting to a challenging workload. I’ve also had to learn how to make realistic plans and carry them out. Also keeping a positive attitude throughout this journey was a must.
