We caught up with the brilliant and insightful AsiaDianna Tran a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
AsiaDianna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Open Mind .
I believe that having an open mind helps you understand the world better and easier
But to be successful I believe you have to be strong with your relationships, reputation, representation and your skills . Being successful can look different to so many people and so many different aspects that having a strong skill set will bring you farther because people will see how much you love what you do and so should they. Craftsmanship is only at the eye of the beholder . Building strong relationships shows how resilient and reliable you can be : building your knowledge through people who know more than you and even to share knowledge between the people beneath you . Expending your community sets you for higher goals/wants.
And most importantly having a healthy mindset and body : you can’t be great if your body isn’t feeling great!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Ahhh let’s see where can I start. Like they say college isn’t for everyone and I definitely fit in that “not for everyone” category. I’ve always been into art since a kid and was enrolled into DaVinci Arts Middle School when I was 11 years old and everyday was introduced to a new art . Wether it be: photography to painting, even African drumming . But I found my love in pottery, maybe not slapping down the clay and making that perfect pot but it was the detail work of painting the small tea cups and I was always so intrigued playing with paint and art so when I got out of Highschool beauty school was definitely my way to show my passion! I ended up in esthetics and Nail technology and I just fell in love with nails and I ran with it when I passed state testing . Starting off in a small salon in the Pearl district we’re i was not getting paid when I should have been and dealing with the rough ends of being at go go go salon so I went ahead and tried out a new salon to work out in clackamas OREGON . This is where I was taught sooo much more about nail career , and the do’s and donts . I was blessed to have been at the salon and learning from the sweetest man . But soon after the pandemic hit and I knew I had to figure out what I was going to do. My family and friends supported me as I did house calls for them and they got nails done. After the pandemic started ending I got the confidence to run my own business and get all the right licenses and decided to expand out with my services and add 4-5 new services !
As of now I own my own business under “HONEYMEGUDD” llc you can find me on Instagram :)
The services I now provide are :
-acrylic nails
-biab (structured manicure)
-pedicure biab
-acrylic toes with pedi
-press on nails
-tooth gems
I love what I do so much. As well as I provide a service I also teach my girls nail health when asked or when I feel like they should know along with I am not just a nail tech I’m your friend so when they sit in my chair it’s all about what we did for the week , our goals, what we want/need in our life’s just about anything you talk to your bff about me and my gals get down to the tea!
I am home based currently as of (10/5/23) but I have been in the works since (05/25/23) to build my dream studio . Currently I am in a 95 sqf room and I am going to be in a 1,200 sqf room
To make all the services so much easier to get to and bring out . I’m so excited for all my gals to experience what I’ve always wanted them to ! From a new pedicure chair to a whole snack station with instant noodles and fresh cut up fruits and can’t forget them hot chips !!
I’m so proud that I’ve done this all on my own with no help from my parents because I just lost my father 2 months ago and my only wish in life was to take care of my parents so now I’m working my ass off to give my mother everything and anything she wants/needs
This opportunity to have such a strong business and such amazing and loyal clients has granted me to slowly have my wishes and dreams come true and for that I will always be thankful
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Craft Reputation and Caring for your clients . Nothing like a good word of mouth! Once you create a strong relationship with your clients they will want their circle to be closer to you: get services provided from You since they already know how genuine you are about them, yourself and your business
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Let people know who you are . No one wants to randomly just sit in the chair of someone the know nothing about . If you have an instagram for your business. There’s nothing like waking up getting ready and doing a story post “hey everyone good morning I hope everyone has a kick ass day and don’t forget to book an appt with me “ or even posting about your work on your story, always being present on your social media will show that you are booked and busy and people will see that work ethic and will want to continue to watch what the next thing you’re into next ! Video presentations are always a high eye grabber : posting a reel showing how you organize your stuff or how you clean up. People don’t always wanna see the good the wanna see the stressful time too cuz we are all human!
