Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Asia Walters. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Asia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have been working since I was 13 years old. I have worked in restaurants, customer service, retail store, security, housekeeping, front desk jobs, personal care givers and more. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances I can’t work my dream jobs and the jobs I have always wanted to do since a child, so I have been stuck with working the bare minimum jobs, jobs that want you to give them your full undivided attention, jobs that want you to put them first and above anything for the less amount of money. I decided I wanted to work for myself I decided to become an entrepreneur I now own 2 businesses of my own one is called Five Creations where I decorate parties, baby shower, gender reveals, repass for family members who have passed away, birthday parties for adults and or children of all ages and also trying to decorate weddings which I have yet to do but hoping one day I get the chance to do. I have been doing that for going on 6 years I started that back in 2016; my second business is called Females That Hustle Collection based on a women’s clothing brand where I customized women’s apparel and work with vendors around the world to bring my vision to life on my clothing. I been doing that since June of 2020; I have shipped to over 10 states and hoping to get my clothing worldwide and one day hoping to own a clothing boutique store on wheels. I have joined in over 10 pop up shop events and have been a part of The Black Entrepreneur State Fair for the past 3 years where a bunch of local businesses get together and sell our products to the community of. I am currently only selling my products online right out of my own but again hoping to one day get something mobile to transport my orders and products to seem as though a lot of my clientele is outside of my area. I love what I do with both business and personally would trade it for the world; I love meeting new people I love the feedback about my clothing, and I take pride in all my events I have did over 30 events and I plan on doing more and getting bigger. Problems that I some time run into for my clothing brand is finding the right material and fabric fitting for my clothing. Working with out of state vendors can sometimes be a challenge but I don’t give up if something doesn’t work out then I figure it out right away and I figure out what works for my customers. I don’t really run into many challenges with my events that actually runs pretty well. I would love more inventory so I can offer my customers more and make my events larger and more eventful; inventory can sometimes be expensive, but I have a nice collection of items for my events in what I call my she-shed right next door to my house. Every day I’m learning how to do something different and every day I’m learning something new. I knew signing up for this wasn’t going to be easy and I love a challenge; so, I’m here for the long run when it comes to making my business run smoothly. I appreciate all opportunities that come my way and I look forward to working with anyone that is interested in my businesses. I think this works for me and what I’m trying to offer to the community as far as decorating for the next person or putting clothing on women in my community.

Asia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I own two businesses of my own products I offer for my first business is decorating special events such as baby showers, birthday parties for children and adults, repass for family members who have lost they loved one, gender reveal parties, and hoping to one day do weddings. I have been decorating events since 2017 and hoping to go worldwide and become a traveling event planner one day.my second business is called Females That Hustle Collection based on a women’s clothing brand where I customized women’s apparel and work with vendors around the world to bring my vision to life on my clothing. I been doing that since June of 2020; I have shipped to over 10 states and hoping to get my clothing worldwide and one day hoping to own a clothing boutique store on wheels What makes me so proud of them is once I decorate people events is how beautiful the events look and how my clients be complimenting my work afterwards, I really take pride in my work and seeing my growth over the years is amazing because I have come so far from my first event which I had charge $300 I now have done events for over $1200 ; my family help me decorate events because even though I am the mastermind behind the events it’s just some work I can’t do alone or it might take me a little longer. My performance time is based on what all I’m decorating and how big of an event I have done full decorated events in a hour or less or token 2-3 depending on what I’m decorating, and my family play a major role in helping me with my decorating. What makes me proud about my clothing is all the good reviews I get regarding my clothing all the good feedback from my customers sometimes makes my day. When people see me out and about, they will be like “oh you Females That Hustle I been wanting to meet you to shop with you” that right there lets me know I’m doing a good job with getting my clothing out there to be noticed. I have shipped my clothing to quite a few states, I have attended quite a few events and I have opened up 2 locations within my 2 years of having my clothing brand. My brand is all unique you won’t see my clothing nowhere else unless it’s coming from me; I’m hoping to one day have my clothing in our local stores; even though I opened up to no locations having a store/suite just wasn’t for me I don’t really like sitting still waiting on orders I like to move around and drop off orders which is why I’m hoping to one day have a boutique on wheels one day. I live outside the cities so if I had something that was mobile, I can pull upon my customers or a parking lot and let people come in and shop and see what I can have to offer. Right off all I have is social media to promote my businesses and I want other ways to promote my brands. Billboards, bus benches and different signages all over town things like that.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
How I build my audience for my business from my events I started out doing my children birthdays and a friend had asked me to do her child birthday and I charged her $300 ; after that I just started doing small events for people around my town and eventually decided I was going to make that a business and start to take it serios so that meant collecting stuff , perfecting my craft and raising my prices over the years and I have did over 30 events ; sometimes 1-2 a month ; and the clientele just started pouring in from when people would either attend events I had did or by word of mouth. I now have a Facebook and Instagram page with my business where people can see my previous work, book me for the upcoming event and leave me reviews regarding they event. I am also on google; for my clothing brand I attended events throughout my city called pop up shops I would join them around my town and bring in clientele from them. My first pop up shop was within the first month I dropped my clothing brand and I averaged to make almost a thousand dollars from my first event and from there people started to know who I was. I now have a Facebook, Instagram page, and an ordering website for my business where people can see what I’m dropping next, catch a deal or sale I’m promoting or order right online. I am very proud of how much work I put into my both my businesses. Only advice I can give to the next is don’t stop promoting and sharing your business on all your social media platforms and meeting the right people can benefit your business. Networking is really important.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to learn is nothing is easy or given to you. You have to work twice as hard to get to where you want to be; taking criticism is important and can help you become better at what you’re trying to do. Don’t jump on everything because some people are not worth working with or may not take your business as serious as you. Given up is not an option you have to take your business serious if you want the next person to.
