We recently connected with Asia Morrow and have shared our conversation below.
Asia , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think it takes a lot of failing to become successful. I’m willing to jump in and try different things when it comes to business/career. Most of those endeavors has failed me, but I never let it stop me.
Asia , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Asia Jurise and I’m originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. I currently live in Nashville, Tennessee. My journey with fashion started fairly young. As a child, I remember being obsessed with fashion, beauty, celebrities, magazines and music videos. I loved seeing the different looks and all the beautiful women. It was more than just the physical beauty for me. I saw strength, confidence and happiness. These women did not only look good they felt good! I was intrigued and I wanted to be those women. I started playing with my fashion and wanted to make sure I stood out! The night before school, I would spend hours trying on looks to make sure everything was perfect. Although, in my neighborhood you didn’t see many women working in Fashion, the goal was to become teachers and nurses. It wasn’t until I attended Western Kentucky University, I realized I could capitalize from being creative and working in the Fashion industry. While in college, I started working in retail and fell in love. I knew fashion was my passion, so I changed my major to Fashion Merchandising and received my bachelors a couple years later. The biggest issue for me as a struggling college student was being able to afford the latest trends. I knew I had to look good but on a budget. I began to study fabrics, brands and started thrifting. Goodwill, consignment and vintage shops became my 2nd home. I would style the pieces and make them look current, I refer to this as todays vintage! So I left retail and decided to resell vintage pieces and named my online shop Asia Jurise Vault. Specializing in handpicked vintage pieces. I’ve found amazing items and I’ve sold to people all over the world. It does require discipline, consistency and time. I’m constantly evolving, growing and looking forward to the future of fashion. I am working on something major for 2023, I’m super excited for my next chapter! This has been an amazing ride and I’m so thankful and proud of myself for continuing to strive for greatness!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Wow!! It’s so many stories, I feel like with anything in life you must have the capacity to recover quickly from difficult situations and tough times.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I’ve had to unlearn a lot! I’m super grateful for 2nd chances and growth. The biggest lesson for me has been letting go of fear. I feel like parents, schools and society uses fear tactics to help keep you in line.As children and young adults we need that, but I realized it was hindering my growth. I was too comfortable and I needed to step out of my comfort zone to reach my fullest potential.
