We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Asia Mayo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Asia, appreciate you joining us today. Do you have any advice regarding quality control and maintaining quality as your brand grows?
Audacious Tresses started in 2015 and as the company grows we stick to some of the same morals of our company we set in the beginning.
Quality control is very important! Having proper systems in place to insure every product is up to my companies standards is key.
Having quality control is very important to make sure each order that is placed the customer will receive what I promised.
I love receiving reviews as it helps builds the reputation of the company, and quality assurance goes hand and hand with satisfied customers.
My advice to new business owners is to set the standards in the beginning of your business. Write out exactly what your company stands for and the quality you insure your customers will receive. Make plans for if the quality fails how you will resolve the issue with your customer immediately.
Asia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello I am Asia Mayo a custom wig makers and licensed hairdresser. I started doing hair at a very young age. I was obsessed with “hype hair magazine” and they showcase of stylist and their hair artwork. As a young girl I cried for a digital camera so I can take pictures of my artwork that I created (using my little sister as a model) to showcase to family and friends. My passion for hair came at a very early age and has always been in my heart.
As a custom wig maker you have the freedom to create a masterpiece with colors and hair designs.
Staying consistent has kept my business growing and getting more eyes on my artwork.
There had been hard times but staying true to my brand and keeping the fire lit had gotten me through all challenges.
Sometimes you will get knocked down but remember ALWAYS get back up.
I named my brand Audacious Tresses to represent (Bold and uniqueness) to set myself apart from others. Making sure my work is consistent and always providing a high quality has kept everything going.
Taking continuing education to make sure I follow the latest trends has always helped me stay one of the best in the industry.
I aim to always please my customers by offering a high quality of service, great and friendly customer service, and always taking accountability if I fall short in my business.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience is something that I love. Getting to that light at the end of the tunnel!
There was a time I had a client very unpleased with her unit initially. She stated is what not like the picture. I was devastated because I take pride in my work.
After getting to the root of the problem I offered her a solution.
She was so happy with the end result of her unit. She is now a returning customer of 5 years.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to learn is that business is business and all your customers can’t be your friend.
Friends ask for favors and clients that become friends ask for more lol!
I had a client that turned into a friend. She started to ask for free hairstyles and wigs.
Wigs have an overhead so I wasn’t willing to give her free wigs.
She was so angry with me she never spoke to me again after the first time I told her NO.
Lesson learned to keep business and friendship separate.
